Our military is weak compared to theirs.
The Spanish Army fears our Archer.

Egypt (Republic):
Our military is weak compared to theirs.
The Egyptian Army fears our Archer.
The Egyptian Army has the Swordsman.

Persia (Republic):
Our military is weak compared to theirs.
The Persian Army fears our Archer.
The Persian Army has the Horseman.

Really, not very optimistic. Only 7 archers so far.

I know, it's really not a bright situation.

Furthermore, I'm concerned by the fact that we have not a single unit with a defense of more than 1. At least one of our cities is totally devoid of units. I fear what a galley-load or 3 of Persian Immortals might be able to do to our mainland. (Not that they would ever attack we fearsome Vikings anyway.)


So, fellow Vikings, I'm asking you:
Should we build more offensive units or defensive units at the moment?

Would go for spears. In our current state it is not likely we are going to attack anyone so we have to concentrate on spears and settlers to get on that nice island and protect our mainland.

we may not fear the immortals - persians don't have iron and it seems they will not grab any source. Spearman will be useful in offense too - they will fortify the conquered cities.
BUT
The archers will upgrade to berzerkers.

Umm...

That's not entirely true: the Persians do have a source of iron; they just haven't hooked it up yet (as far as we know, anyway).

if at war with Persia, an attack on that Iron Mountain and fortified unit there could cut them off from their Iron source.

Exactly! A considerable stretching of resources for us, but not out of the question. Only thing is, do we target Persia now, before the Iron is hooked up long enough for lots of Immortals to enter service, or do we go for Spain first, scattered and without a UU?

Spanish have the Great Lighthouse (in Madrid IIRC)
