So first the trade didn't work out -quite- as good as I'd hoped. In We got Map Making for +10 g more than I projected, which wasn't -bad- but then Cleo hiked her rate for Philosophy by 70g rrr. >_< I'd like to move our next city be "Cleo's a greedy *bleep*, too" We paid it anyway and left HBR for another time. Persia circulated Code of Laws quickly, and Mathematics also now appears in the trade window with Egypt and Spain. Persia wants gold at the least to settle so we're probably going to have to sail across and sack a city or two there, or bulk up the army more.

Well after a bit of luck with Bob Fodder grabbing us some Persian slaves, we've got a sticky wicket on our hands Persia dropped an archer in the forest by Valhalla and two vet archers damaged him but failed to kill him (and he got promoted to vet himself). However I do find it notable that they -didn't- send an Immortal, but then I noticed on the diploscreen.......Iron isn't listed as an available resource!! (though Horses are). Though luckily, barb galleys killed the galley that dropped him off

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

If we retreat Worker Bee the Persians will probably attack Valhalla. We have about 50% chance to win that battle. Maybe we should send reinforcements from Bifrost.

I also noticed (in the save) that the Persians have settled on the island 8 of Thor's Hammer, next to the Egyptians. Possibly even on the same landmass.

Takes 2 turns to reinforce from Bifrost, but only 1 turn from Spanish Are Greedy. Why not reinforce from S.A.G., and sac the pawn...uh...worker, by leaving him on 7Valhalla. If the Persian vet archer attacks Valhalla and gets one warrior, the other one holds the city, and the archer made in Valhalla the next turn can get the wounded vet archer (hopefully). If the Persian archer takes the worker, he's an easier target (for our archer)on the plains and we'll have no trouble capturing the worker back (unless he's executed).

Might even move Bifrost warrior 6 and perhaps the archer at 4Bifrost into Bifrost, just in case the RNG is on a rampage.

Hmm... an interesting idea. What if we moved the worker one turn away from the Pers Archer? The Archer is unlikely to attack the city with two full strength units in it, and even if it does the Archer next turn should take it down. Worker baiting works at times for the AI, and the wounded Archer may instead go after the easier target of the worker, giving us the option to take it down.

Doh. I overlooked the river next to Bifrost. No immediate reinforcements from there.

It would be a shame to lose the worker.
The AI will probably attack Valhalla since there is no other option of attacking/pillaging anything immediately. Besides, does the AI know there are 2 units there? The warrior from SAG can probably get to Valhalla in the Persian's fog of war. Don't know about any cheats for the AI though

With 2 units in the city, we can't lose it and launch a counter attack the next turn should our defender die.

Instead of attacking Valhalla, the archer may just fortify if the worker is moved away, but the AI will often go for a worker in preference to other targets, so if we leave him there and the AI takes him, 1) the archer doesnt heal (isnt that right? its not like winning a battle?), and 2) hes on a tile with a lower defensive bonus. My only question is whether the AI would execute (disband) the worker or have him try to escape. I've seen both happen and dont know what determines which the AI will do. If the worker is not executed, we shouldnt have any problem capturing him back on the next turn.

As for other targets, the archer could move 8 and threaten New Asgard, since archer production there is 2 turns away, and we have no other defensive units that could get there in time (I assume that there is not a second warrior in New Asgard - I dont have the save). Perhaps we should move the warrior in Ring of Vikings 6 to be able to get to New Asgard in time to defend. I dont know what all this moving warriors out of cities would cost us in terms of the luxury slider (since I dont have the save). Another nasty move for the archer would be 4, to recover while enjoying the defensive bonus of the hill.

Sometimes I miss zones of control.

The AI will not risk losing the archer by attacking Valhalla. He can't see New Asgard, so likely won't move to attack it. Rather, he will try and capture the worker, and keep it on his tile. Move the warrior from SAG to Valhalla, and kill the archer next turn with the archer being built now. I think that if the worker is moved away the archer will just fortify where he is now, or move to the hills for better defense. I don't see an attack on Valhalla as likely, but moving the warrior from SAG is a must.
