    DM report.
    3500 BC to 2900 BC

Well, can you say “Oh Sh*t”.

Wasn’t a good day, to say the least.

Started off, I was just finishing up the orders, when I hear a big old Crunch from outside. Some drunk bast@rd decided to drive off the road and hit my truck which was parked in the driveway. This was at 2 in the afternoon. I spent the next 4 hours dealing with the police (who first asked why I hit the drunk – apparently he is the son of the mayor of the city next door – so they assumed he couldn’t do any wrong!!!) and then the insurance people trying to get a loaner car, my truck fixed, and get the 60 feet of lawn repaired as well.

Well, eventually I made it to the chat. Where I promptly discover that I made an error in the way I did the orders (fortunately MWIA understood what I intended, not what I had written). I got kind confused, which caused other people to get confused as well. Fortunately it all worked out.

Shortly thereafter, we purchased 2 workers from the Ottomans. That meant the portions of the orders that were correct now were not, as mines got built faster and so forth. So it took me a bit to get up to speed, when, we discover a war party of Ottomans heading our way.

So, we delayed our settler, and got 2 spears instead. That let us survive the initial assault, but we are most definitely not out of the woods.

Of immediate concern, here at the DM office, we have two issues. What do we do with the workers that are hiding in Asgard like my cat in a thunderstorm. We have two slaves, when combined they act as one of our workers (they work at a 50% rate), and one serf (our own civ, so we are paying maintenance for him). There are Ottomans to our west and northwest. So, to the south or east are our work options. We can also join them to the city and pop rush something, but I do not see the benefit of that at this time. We can also do nothing and just let them sit idle for now.

If we go with donegeals Borg plan, it will have to be modified, as we cannot get the workers where they are needed most. Please discuss options. I have some ideas, but I would prefer to hear from the population prior to posting them.

Secondly, what to build next. We all know we need more cities. If we start now, we will get a settler ready in 5 turns. We can also make either 2 warriors, a spear, or an archer in 4 turns. Asgard will grow in 9. I would like people to discuss the option of building an archer to try and kill some lurking Ottomans prior to the settler. Timing would work out fine, as 4+5=9 so we drop down as we grow. However, we are already paying 3 gpt (1 worker, 2 warriors, 2 spears, and 2 scouts) for maintenance, and only making +2 gpt now. A new city is a double bonus. First, lower maintenance costs as we get another 4 (?) free units, plus we get the cities generated income. We will be missing a bit while the settler is moving to the new city site, but that is it, and we will be missing that however we go. If we built the settler first, it will take a bit longer for us to get any military units. Also, we don’t have a barracks yet.

What I am thinking is this:

Build a settler next. Move to the SE and found a new city (city red in the plan). After the settler, start on a barracks. I know it will take some time, but I feel it is worth wild. Then an archer, followed up by another settler (green or one of the magentas). In city red, it will have some corruption (it is the most corrupt of the city locations in donegeals plan), we start first thing on either a barracks or on archers (I would say archers). We only use one of the warriors as an escort. Hopefully, we will have 3 archers (one vet), a warrior and a spear to keep our land clear so we can REX out. We have to rely on our SMC (who we know is capable of doing this) to use the scouts to pillage the Ottomans infrastructure, while we kill off the units near us. Once we can make peace (we know our FAM is good, so now we have to see how good), we continue our plans of world domination.

Please, comment. This thread is for discussion of the DM side of things, and any and all input is welcome (and wanted). Sorry I forgot to turn on the grid – I was quite a ways into drawing when I realized I forgot it and didn’t want to start over. I did a little cut and paste from the city screen as I always hate it when the picture is so large that it screws up the formatting of the post. Hopefully I trimmed this one enough.

I am still opposed to building the red city or for even using our slaves down there.

The green city in my Tight plan is our best option. It would have high production, high commerce and, more importantly, it will have a river for the Ottoman to cross to fight us.

We move all three workers directly north of Asgard and cover them with our Vet Spear. Build a settler in Asgard and try to get Masonry from somewhere so when we build our second city, it can start building walls (only 10 shields as a Mil civ).
Once the road is done, move our Worker stack NE and road/mine there. When the settler is done, move it N twice and build the Green city (Which starts on walls) and now uncover our workers and place the vet spear in the city. Move one of the Warriors from Asgard to this city and fortify both units. Have Asgard build an other spear. All the while, try to make peace with the Ottomans. If we achieve peace, then have the Green city build a barracks and start producing Archers/spearmen every three turns while Asgard builds Settler then spear as needed to build first the Yellow Tight City (As the only PW need for this would be to either Rd S or W of Asgard) then the Blue Tight City. Once we have at least two cities in additional to Asgard, then we can think of attacking.

We do not need the Red City. It is too much of a detriment at this early stage.

I like donegeal's plan here. The Ottoman's wont attack with spears and they dont have enough warriors to be a serious threat to our spears. They could try to pillage eventually. If that happens we can still recover easier with the extra workers.

As far as getting masonry. Considering that all civs we have met have the same techs we do (except the Ottomans, which do have masonry). We will have to meet another civ before any potential trade can take place.

I think we should build an Archer before the settler.

Viking dog archers! That's what we need!

I like the green city from donegeal's tight plan - two tiles north. They have to cross the river to attack, and the tile in between is clear - so they will be vulnerable if they move there. But I say city first - and then an archer.

Betahound - if we build the settler first, it'll take longer total time to build the Archer.

settlers are what we need now. we need to grow.

the AI is doing what we do to it, it's trying to stunt our growth.

              we need settlers.

              and regular archers... ick.
