  • Turnchat 1 - report and save for 3500BC

Well we had a light turnout at 6am East Coast USA time, but Havamal was well represented by both theviking and BetaHound. Hot_Enamel was there mostly lurking ^_^ and one of the map's creators BigFurryMonster was about to take abuse where need be. Domestic Minister UnOrthOdOx was with us at 4am his time just hoping to finish before work, and was his usual indispensale self - and the only Minister able to be there! Oh, and BigFree was so cute sleeping like that, right there in the chatroom.

We had some fun - as suspicions were correct - we found the coast to the South on the first moves - complete with fish!

3950BC We founded Asgard - home of the gOdZ. Name is not necessarily permanent. May the strong armed women of Asgard bear many a bloodthirsty warrior child!

3750BC We found the Ottomans' second city ( welcome to Deity, I guess), complete with two Spears. We traded Warrior Code and Pottery for Bronze Working and 10gold. The other option was our techs for Masonry and 2 gold.

More exploration has since revealed that we may be at the West of a peninsula of sorts. Rivers were found and at least one, maybe two lakes! We found a cow and some good city sites. We ended at 3500BC, before moving the new Warrior in Asgard and both Scouts. The worker is about to start on a road where it is, then a mine. Scouts have been named (not in-game, just for confusion's sake) Thor to the West, and Fenris to the East.

We had 3 turns of 1 beaker and then 4 beakers for turns 4-10 (7 turns) of 4 beakers. We will get Ceremonial Burial at this rate in another 26 turns, which means it costs between 132 and 135 beakers all up.

    Let the discussions begin!

why does this not look like an archipeligo with 80% water?

You are blind or the fog make you see things...

I don't like this, Ottoman is to close, we need two - three settlers realy fast and then a good army.

Or else we are in a very short game.

I think we should as soon as possible go for a city within one tile range of the cow to allow for mass production of settlers ...

                  Do you mean:

                  a) "it isn't, because we made it, not the random generator."

                  b) "it isn't roughly 80% water, archipeligo because we just had fun and didn't concern ourselves with those poll outcomes."

                  c) "we used the poll outcomes as a guideline, but it isn't exactly 80% water"

                  I'm hoping you meant c).

It is a) since, by definition, 80%-archipelago only applies to computer generated maps (that's what I meant above).

It is also c) since we didn't really count the number of sea vs the number of land tiles.

We applied the spirit of the outcome of the polls, creating a map that will need naval action, but made sure that every civ has a decent start position without it becoming an isolationist game.

And you can tell after just a few turns?

Be prepared for plenty of surprises, good and bad, from this map. It is nothing like any computer generated map you've played on.

So I was right on two counts.

That's what I thought - no need to go berserk, UberKruX.
