My list, according to Marla's world map (this hasn't got anything to do with history, just even spacing)

    - Germans
    - Babylonians
    - Persians
    - Russians
    - Chinese
    - Indonesians
    - Australians
    - Egyptians
    - Nubians
    - Carthaginians
    - Mali
    - Zulu
    - Americans
    - Aztecs
    - Incas
    - Sioux

As for the civs that I would pick otherwise (based on my interest in the history of the civ, and their historical significance...), there are just too many to name.
"Corporation, n, An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility." -- Ambrose Bierce
"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." -- Benjamin Franklin
"Yes, we did produce a near-perfect republic. But will they keep it? Or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom? Material abundance without character is the path of destruction." -- Thomas Jefferson

i'm sure one could add some more to this list (and btw: yugoslavia is/was actually a nation, formed out of a lot of civilizations ((serbian orthodox) serbs, (lots of 'em muslim) bosnians, (roman catholic) croats, (afaik catholic) slovenes, the macedonians you already named and some other smaller groups.

i'm definetly missing a native south american indian culture and some other africans. after all, humans did arise from africa (so one says).

i saw a poll about how many civs, more than half voted for 32, 64 or more.

i guess it would be great if the choice in the game would be bigger without having to use mods the whole time.

64 civs, some of you apolyton members are great artist (er... flicsters ) and your historic knowledge is superiour to that of the actual game developers. i'm sure they'd like if someone would help them for free firaxis could make a contest: 32 new civs (not ONLY 8 like CtP) each with UU (allthough they won't be too unique anymore ) and starting location. best ones get included in XP2 or CIV4 :-p
