  • If you HATE FRENCH PINK. . .

Hate that stupid French pink color?

Change it in Editor to royal blue.

Sometimes changing colors causes crashing, but this has never crashed for me.

Once, while playing in a game against the Germans, Bismarck's boys turned yellow. When I added Egypt (normally yellow), Germany turned red. When I added Rome, Germany turned orange. And the games worked.

Perhaps there is a combination of civs that will crash it; maybe not. I suppose if you play ALL the civs it will likely crash. But so far so good. Anything is better than that horrid pink.

Changed the French to white (colour of the French monarchy, which ruled France 8/10th of its life, and still a third of the French flag). Changed the Barbs to pink, because Barbs are whimps, and get killes very soon, so you don't have to bear this pink anyway.

This has been discussed in many threads, but you can avoid crashes by using only the first half (17?) of the available colors in the editor.

Your's is the first suggestion for assigning pink to the barbs. I like it, but I give it to England, since maps used to (and may still) represent the territories of the British Empire with that color.

      Some of my other choices:

      Russia - red
      US - light blue
      France - teal
Germany - black (their color in Diplomacy)
      Aztecs - blood red!
India - shocking pink, reminds me of a sari
      Egypt - turquoise
Babylon - orange (see ancient-age picture of Hammurabi)
Persia - dark blue, no good reason
Rome - royal PURPLE, of course
Zulus - brown, the color of the veldt?
Iroquois and Greece get green shades, I forget which gets which
Japan gets gray as a leftover, it wouldn't normally be my choice if more colors were available.

I just started a game as Japan and found that it was hard to distinguish my territory from desert (?) on the minimap when I used the gray color for Japan (as I mentioned above). So I quit and changed Japan to white and Barbarians to gray.

That works well enough, since the Barbs are not displayed on the minimap, and the white city dots do show up against the off-white territory color.

That's one of the first things I did when I got the game on Christmas. Logic requires it.

But you know, I think we're talking about your India pink, here... The one that initially goes to the French. I don't think that pink is very reminiscent of British pink...

My India is gray, like in Civ1. I gave the "blood red" to the Mali (Zulus replacement).

              Germany- Black
              China- Turquoise

              India- Pale Pink
              Aztec- Red
              Iroquois- Green
              Egypt- Yellow
              Babylon- Orange
              Russia- Dark Red
              America- Light Blue
              France- White
              Persia- Dark Blue
              Zulus- Brown
              Britian- Blue
              ============
              Barbarian- Pink

The reason I did the stuff that I did...

Rome: Senatorial purple looks kinda like the Civ3 purple.
Greece: Gets its color as a simple leftover.
Germany: Black is on its flag, symbol of Austria and Hapsburgs.
China: Turquoise is basically a leftover that fits in.
Japan: Gray in color, would fit with almost everyone (color only).
India: Rather give them the light pink, its more respectable.
Aztecs: As with the previous poster, the Aztec lust of blood.
Iroquois: Get a more "natural" green than the Greeks.
              Egyptian: Favorite building material--sandstone--is yellow.
Babylon: Orange is a common color with Hammurabi.
Russia: The Soviet Unions favorite color in Worker's Red.
America: Needed to be blue, light blue was just left over.
France: White is a symbol of the various houses, better than pink.
Persia: Also needed to be blue, again dark blue was left over.
Zulu: Got brown as a leftover, better than pink at least.
Britian: As with America and Persia, got handed a blue.
              =======================================
Barbarian: Bunch of brainless idiots deserve pink.

I know I was really similar to the previous list, but great minds think alike, right?

Why Royal Blue, if anybody should be Royal blue it should be England, if not Royal Blue, British racing Green, or Red (Old soldiers wore red!)

Having the French white is OK with me, but it makes it a bit difficult to see the city size numbers. No big deal though.

The Histography screen looks like the colors of an Easter egg, though!

Yeah that histograph sure is purdy!

In my current game, large max civs, the Americans are pink! The colors sure do change when you have more than 8 civs in one game.

The colors are really a little "Fruity".

Maybe some PC anti-war statement by pacifistic Culture Flipping crowd at Firaxis.

"Great minds think alike" or "Fools never differ", either works.

Rome - purple (the emperors wore this colour)
                        Egypt - yellow (no change)
                        Greece - lime (no change)
Babylon - grey (no particular reason)
Germany - black (as in Prussian black)
Russia - orange (no particular reason)
China - red (as in red china)
America - lt blue (had to be some form of blue)
Japan - lavender (the samurai look cute in this colour)
France - blue (napoleonic to early 20th century soldiers wore blue)
India - pink (so his UU would look even more stupid)
Perisa - aqua (no particular reason)
Aztecs - dk blue (most aztec art used a lot of this colour)
Zulus - brown (similar reason as above)
Iroquois - dk green (a foresty colour)
England - dk red (coat colour of british soldiers in the 18th and 19th centuries)

China has been red only since 1949.

Rome is associated with red as that is what its legions wore.

So I disagree with making Rome anything but red.
