  • Which Civ has the best Abilities?

The poll that asked what civ people will play first doesn't seem to indicate what civ-specific abilities those people think are the best.

Why the French of course! Commercial + Industious = Lots of Bonuses = HUGE Advantage For Me Vive l'empire français!

The Persians are a close second.

BTW, how in the world did you get 16 options? Isn't there a 10-option maximum?

Edit: I love the French civ so much I got myself a French knight custom avatar

I like a fast-spreading culture and a territory full of irrigation and mines. So the Egyptians´religious/industrious combo will suit my play-style.

        I'm special.

Seriously, though, they changed the number of options after someone made a poll about the civs and could only list 10. Later, the other 6 "magically" appeared to make the poll complete, and now we can all make a poll with up to 16 options.

I voted on the Russians, because the combination of
expansion and science is actually quite interesting.
Why? You can advance smoothly in science, without
having to suffer in the expansion. Of course science and
religion (Babylonians) is also an option, but I'm keen
on expanding my empire rapidly, so the Russians
          are better for that.

All three: French, Greek, Babylonians, would suit my playing style

I voted for French, but if Expansionistic ability is done properly,
                Americans can be RELLY powerfull:
10 turn: gettivng city from goody hut, before everyone (better stuff from villages)
30 tun: other civs have 2 cities you have 4 cities
                etc...
Anyway quick production of settler and goody huts, plus quick
                infrastucture building make great civ.

I don't think that Scientific is too powefull.
A few extra technologies isn't that much compared to other abilities.
Science building are cheatper to make, but after everybody builds them,
you wont't have lead in science anymore (no bonus science).
Actually, in early game Commercial civ will have better science than Scientific.
Still, to balance that old scientific buildings generate culture so this abylity isn't bad at all.

Technology dosn't mean anything if you don't have enough gold any production to use it.

P.S. Still you can bribe enemy civs with tours superior technology.

Religious abylity look a little weak compared to others.
It is usefull in wars to swich govenments.
That culture bonus because quicker building of religious bonus is, a little bit
more powerfull, then same bonus for Scientific, but scentific also gain sciense from their buildings, wich is more compared to happines bonus.

Can you conclude from this poll, which CSA is most favored? I would conclude Industrious, because the two most popular civilizations are both Industrious + something... although I guess there has already been a CSA poll (shoot me I am a newbie)

First, since none of us know how the specific attributes will actually play out, it's very hard to judge which are best.

Still, I picked the Germans, because at least in Civ2, my thing was to have the biggest military and be ahead in science. Although I think the Germans should be Commercial more then militaristic, if you want to be more accurate. So I would swap their abilities with the Greeks (commercial? Athens, maybe, but not really...)

Expanionist seems to me to be the least-attractive ability.

                            Cheers.

Well I agree with this and I've stated such in other threads concerning civ ablities. However, it's still fun to see what people think now. We can see later if we were close or very wrong in our predictions.

It's also possible some abilities will be tweaked in future patches if one or another ability is too strong or too weak.
