I guess the Rider doesn't sound so bad now does it?

And as Windborne pointed out in a now closed thread:

The special unit of the iroquois is mounted on a horse, which on a historical map won't be available to them until the coming of the europeans! Yes we have an early technology special unit that can't be built on a historical map until such a time as someone crosses either the atlantic or the pacific!
    Sorry, my underlining.

Indians on horses... that isn't right. Period. It's not their culture.

They should have trackers or scouts with all as roads or something. NOT horses.

Yeah well in Civ3 you're rewriting history so it doesn't matter; they could live near wild horses for example.

They used horses when they were brought over by Europeans. Had there been wild horses in the Americas they probably would've been used by Native Americans.

Thing is there weren't. Rewriting history is fine, FIND the horses would be rewrite history. Giving them to them right away is reinventing history, not rewriting it.

As was also pointed out in the thread mentioned earlier, it could be kind of a what-if horses never died out in North America...

For me it will be a kind of "what if" Firaxis never included the Iroquois -- cuz I'm editing them out of the game.

Now I'm going to need a csu for the Incas....

                  Sigh

What if an Iroquois found a wild horse in the woods, let out a shout of triumph and no one was there to hear it? Would he still have a horse to ride? Kidding aside, while an Iroquois on a horse may not be historically accurate, neither is an Iroquois with a firearm...prior to Dutch traders supplying them to the Iroquois as a means of driving other tribes who were friendly with the French out of the region. So, when Iroquois develop muskets in the game (without finding Dutch traders imbedded in the land as a natural resource), you who are historical mavens are duty-bound to grumble and complain about it. Actually, I agree that Incas would be a better addition to the game and that an Iroquois on a horse is not the greatest possible choice for their UU. However, I also realize it is just a game and that you can edit the civilizations in the game , therefore if you are bothered by the Iroquois and their UU you may simply alter that which offends you. Just make sure that your changes are perfectly and historically accurate.

If they are going to make them mounted American indians they could at least call them the Sioux! Personally, I would have thought an enhanced scout would have been more in keeping with their ethos.

It's so funny that on an Earth map, they won't be able to build their special units until the coming of the Europeans, by which time muskets and gunpowder will be in use. Hell, at least its historically accurate
