  • The Persians seem like a really cool civ. I really like their attributes, but what I enjoy most about Civ games is taking an ancient civilization and bringing them into the modern world in a bold new way. I will probably try the Egyptians next. A combination of Industrious and religious might lead to an amazing modern culture.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention how cool schimitars and chariots are. Imagine a modern Marine commercial, except instead of a long sword, the one of a few good men holds up an enormous sabre. That would be awesome.

    • My choice will be the Russians because of the UU. But I am not sure, The french are also quite interesting with their abilities, but I don't like the color.

      • Definitely the Chinese. Not because of any particular respect for Mao, but simply because I really like Chinese culture.

Either that, or I'll customize one. Go Austro-Hungarian Empire! Francis Ferdinand Forever! (or until he gets shot )

        • Holy shit! How did the Romans get so many votes?! Vote for the French everybody! They are commercial and industrious, the two best CSAs because they give you bonuses for every city and last the whole game! Plus your workers work harder, getting tile improvements and even more bonuses quicker! Plus they have a cool UU (the Musketeer), which doesn't come so early you never get to mass-produce them or so late that the game is already over or soon to be over before you can maximize the UU potential. Not to mention the French are just plain cool

Vote for the French! Votez pour les Français!

            • Greek.

              Here's why I'm going Greek:

              1. Their special unit Hoplite (1-3-1) rocks. As a defensive player, I love it to just stick a highly effiecient, cheap defender into every city from the start and not have to bother about it for the next 2-3 millenna.

              2. I'm a science geek and I need to feel scientific superiority over my enemies, rather than strength through numbers. Commercial ability is ok, though I admit I'm not too thrilled about it.

              3. I like to have philosophically inclined civilization. My own name will most likely stem once more from a Greek philosopher.

              4. Greek city names are legible (as opposed to Japanese or Atztec ones).

              5. Greek palaces are a pretty sight.

              6. With the Greek, I have a feeling that I really build up a civilization from ancient times without feeling odd about it. I can see the Greek researching the alphabet (something I can't with the Americans) as well as nuclear power (something I cannot with the Iroques).

I do rate strategic points higher than cultural ones, but they blend in nicely here.

                • As I said, if you want to go peaceful (at least... up to a certain point) Greeks are the numero uno... and the 11 votes state that many people feel like it.

                  Go Greek!

                    • I'm gonna be Aztec in a fairly large world. I'm also gonna try a strategy that would spell death in civ II. I'm just gonna have one city. Thats right, unless I get one from a goody hut or I am forced to conquer a neighboring civ, I'm just going to let my capital grow huge, and put any excess population into workers and colonies. I expect that w/o losing popultion to building new cities, I can get a large city with lots of cultural buildings in it. When you get a radius of three or four your single city actually covers a lot of ground! Pretty mcuh what the aztecs basically did; there center was Tenochtitlan and they just pretty much had other tribes bring em tribute (analagous to big cultural radius + colonies).
Btw, where do you get all those other smilies? The ones with guns and stuff?

That UU hasn't been confermed by Fraxis so it's nothing more then an educated guess. After all fraxis has changed UUs before.

Um, having only one city has already been done already on Deity in Civ2.

It's a strat known that's known as OCC and has been frequently talked about. And it also has the additional rule that cities from goody huts are not allowed.

Unfortunately, city radii are the same as civ 2. It's borders which can grow to three or four squares away from the city.

No, I think its city radii which grow. Also, somebody mentioned OCC... I never knew it was a used stratergy... I just PLAYED civ 2, never visited any forums on it. So what does OCC stand for, and how did it work in civ 2? My gut feeling is it wouldn't have worked very well, but then I never tried it.
