Maybe, but DO NOT send it to the askthecivteam@firaxis.com address or any other general one like that. They'll probably never see it if you send it there. Try sending it to someone's personal address at Firaxis if you can find it. MAYBE something like danmagaha@firaxis.com or something. I would recommend contacting Dan Q or one of the Admins of this site for the best way of contacting Firaxis.

I like Tieqi, but I wonder about the precident of calling something by its non-english name. Should a knight built by the German civ be called a 'Ritter'?

Then again, there is already 'Panzer'....

I don't care, at least iron cavalry is better. Or somehitng like imperial guards. The Rider is the worst one i have heard of up to now.

I don't see anything wrong with it. It makes sense that Germans have Panzers, Greeks have Hoplites and Chinese have Tieqi. The native word for the special unit, but not for the regular unit, because that's shared by the rest of the civilizations, and should thus be in Esperanto (so it's not a knight but a kavaliro).

That gives me an idea for an Esperanto patch.

BTW, Tieqi (Tiêqì) is pronounced (more or less) like TYUH-CHEE.

            TYEH-CHEE.

If you really want to sound authentically Chinese:

Tie (tyeh) with a low dipping tone. Start low, and dip lower. Qi (chee) with a rising tone. Start at the mid-latitudes and go up to the highs.

            In musical notation:

            dc-----efg----
            tyeh--chee--

How come Firaxis never commented on this? Surely it would be easy enough to change the name, since nobody seems to like "Rider" anyway.
Tieqi refers to the kind of army, not just the horse or the man riding the horse. For example, Navy SEAL refers to a special force unit in the US military, it however does not mean people who catchs or kill seals. Tieqi rider would not make sense.

Probably not, I don't know, I can't talk chinese, but right now I'm more interested in CHANGING "Rider" than anything else. So I thought this could be an easy and graceful way for Firaxis not having to "change" the name, but just tweak it.

Tieqi rider is a much worse name than just simply Rider. Because Tieqi Rider is so ridiculously stupid.

                          ranskaldan,

Have you contacted Firaxis about this? It is amazing the support that Tieqi has gotten. Firaxis would be a bit foolish not to change it from Rider to Tieqi.

I've emailed both Dan and Mark...

on civfanatics they say that civ3 is going gold in a couple of days... aargh! i hope that there's time for the name change... if not we'll have to mod it ourselves.

                            I'll email Firaxis directly.
