  • Aztec Special Unit

Does anybody have any suggestions for the Aztec special unit? I'm no Aztec history scholar, so I have no clue what it should be.

I don't really know what it's going to be, but I think the best bet would be a warrior or phalanx, I can't really see them using anything else, especially since most the units are based on european warfare.

The Aztecs were foot soldiers. The main weapon was a one-handed wooden club edged with razor-sharp obsidian shards. Some had polearms tipped with obsidian. They also used darts. Their favorite tactic was to let loose a barrage of darts and charge. They were good rough terrain fighter. They did have some bowmen ans spearmen, but these were troops provided by tribes which were subject states.

I'd say warrior unit with the same stats as the Babylonian Bowman(2-1-2)

The aztec special unit will most likely be the eagle warrior. Eagle and Jaguar warriors were the elite forces, organized like military orders, throughout mesoamerica. They were mostly armed with obsidian "swords" or war clubs and had a round shield and cotton armor. Another possible special unit could be the atlatl thrower, which was a device to throw spears or large darts, but I doubt they pick this.
I'm inclined to think that they make the Eagle Warrior a swift infantry unit, in analogy to AoK Conquerors.

The Aztec civilization reigned till around 1600 AD, so an ancient warrior might be a too early unit. The eagle warrior ir proberly most likely, it should have something like 3/4/2, as oppose to the knights 4/3/2. But of coarse an eagle warrior will be tagging of Aoe2.

The problem is, that while the Aztec GA occured around 1400ad, it occured at around 0ad on the technology timescale of the Near East and Mediterannean.

I seriously hope that use a ancient unit like the warrior og spearman for a basic when creating the aztec special unit.

I my opion the aztec eagle warriors would have stood no chance against a roman legion. Their technology were simply not that evolved.

Looking at our own world with civilization-eyes, the aztec civ is simply a civ that started too late or evolved too slowly. They were still in the bronze age when the spaniards arrived. Therefore they should have a bronze age unit!

I'd say Clubmen. Warrior with 2-1-1 stats.
