I will try them out.In fairly short order,it should be apparent as to which are better or offer advantage to a given situation. After that I will need to decide if I like them.Right now I'm thinking I will favor early special units as the game will probably be well in hand(once things are understood) before any modern specials appear.
They may give the ai a good chance at staying somewhat competitive early on.

I don't like the idea for MP.But who knows?I gotta a feeling this may not be a great MP game.
The only thing that matters to me in a MP game is getting a good ally.Nothing else is as important.......Xin Yu

oh no, the multiplayer is "interesting" and "new".

seems like most people like unique abilities and units. Quite different then the opinion you heard some months ago when this subject was discussed. Everyone is converted? or those who didn't liked it left ?

I think they're more popular now because people can see that they don't make a huge difference. Another reason is that without the small increase, most ancient units are totally useless in attack. If you think the special units values are weak, just think of how weak the units are without them!

Maybe i should start a new thread, but the Egyptian special unit is only the same strength as a Horseman from Civ2! The possibility of no satisfaction for players wanting to wage war in Civ3 is looming...

In any case, i will play with them on as it should add more gameplay. It will be of tactical importance when you enact your civ's "golden age", and it will also be tactical to force an opponent's golden age, although it would probably only serve to have you the target of their aggression.

I'll probably try them out at first, but eventually I expect I'll turn them off. Of course, if the AI isn't a long term challenge, then I'll probably start playing the civ that is most opposed to my playing style to keep things interesting (I usually play Morgan or Miriam in SMAC now because for some reason they're negatives really make things tougher for me - and playing Yang and Zhakarov, the two most suited to me, feels too much like cheating).
What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

This is maybe because player can now destroy city walls with catapults and it also looks like the defense valueses are lower. In civ2 had an archer 2 defence in civ3 only 1. I in fact hope the offense will relative(to defense) be a little bit stronger then in civ2 but will be weaker then in SMAC, that looks me best middle way)

funny poll. To answer, basically no. I will treat a game playing with UU (and civ attributes and golden ages and etc.) the same as a scenario, just something different to try when I get bored with the main game.

If you recall, ALL Civ2 scenarios have loads of Unique Units, so why are these 16 anything special? Just wait until Nemo or Kull or Harlan create one of their masterpiece scenarios with dozens and dozens of unique units. Only then will you learn the true potential of Civ.

I'll only turn them off if I find out that it makes the game too unbalanced.

You must have not played any of the great Civ2 WW2 scenarios, particularly the ones by Nemo. Plus, in my regular Civ2 games, I use the Panzer (or Sherman, depending on the mood) custom unit for the standard Armour unit. Don't you?
