          True. Althought Tarq, somehow, managed to get Washington in better spot (IMO), so overall I like his the best.

              Fascist Abe: A Tale of the Golden Eagle

              Thanks again for setting this one up for us, pvzh and Theseus!

              After a long time, I am finally playing with the AU mod again. I remember little of it. I am hoping this will provide a fresh perspective on how the mod plays generally compared to stock.

              I must mention that an additional restriction I am imposing on myself in this game is that I will not engage in offensive warfare until I have researched every single tech in the tech tree (apart from Future Techs). I will also, of course, endeavour to make good use of Fascism. Put together, these restrictions should make for a unique game (at least for me).

              On with it. (Oh, I almost forgot: I'm playing Demigod difficulty.)

              I must admit, my eyes glaze over when reading logs such as the above. So here's a digest of the interesting events:

              I built Washington on the starting location. Covering a Forest Silks tile loses you a net 10 Shields and a bunch of Commerce until you switch out of Despotism; covering a Hills tile foregoes around 2 Shields per turn once out of Despotism until game's end. I felt the latter was the lower cost.

              First thing out of Washington was a second Scout, as I expected the home continent to be rather large if not a Pangea. Next came a Granary. With the Worker assigned to Mine-Road the three Bonus Grasslands, this particular queue results in a Granary produced just before Washington hits size 3, with no Shields lost. Not sure if that was built in to the scenario, but I thought it was pretty sweet.

              I traded for Alphabet immediately upon contacting the Carthaginians, in order to get started on Writing.

              In 3150BC, I got an Advanced Tribe - New York - from a Goody Hut all the way on the southewestern edge of the continent! I think that's the second time in all my Civ3 career that this has happened. I decide to keep the city despite its uselessness and vulnerability, as with the help of some Culture buildings I hope to deny some nice real estate from the AI (Rome, most likely).

              As with many others that posted abovd, I managed to trade for Slave Workers from the AI. I think I got the most as of 2150BC though: 2 Roman, 2 Greek - 4 total. This, of course, has to do with the fact that the Demigod AI starts with more Workers than at Emperor and Monarch.

              Within the first 40 turns my strategy has been to get Boston up to pump status ASAP, and to build Settlers as quickly as possible in Washington (oscillating between sizes 1 and 3 - 10 turns). This strategy is borne out of fear that the Demigod AI will REX me out of contention. It also explains my city placement for Philadelphia (see screenshot): I normally would place my first few cities much closer together.

                This is my first DAR, but I've played along with some of the other AU courses before for a little while. I'm giving this one a go on Sid, which should make things interesting. Below is my current situation, at 2150BC.

                My plan is to place my next city at the red cross, and thereafter start building some workers. Boston and New York are building granaries in preparation to switch to temple and expand my borders to avoid culture flipping. I know I'm going to be greatly out-cultured, so all my city radius's don't overlap with the city radius of my oppentents cities. This will ensure my cities do not flip after they expand to radius two. The purple crosses are potential city sites, which I will fill in at my leisure, they will give me a total of 11 cities. Hopefully then I can whip up (literally) a military that I can defend myself with.

                  I was just about to ask what difficulty this is Cryptor!! Rome is so big..good luck on Sid
                  Map is not so bad for Sid though I think, none of the AI's on your continent can become really big without warring.

                    Found "Peace Forever" on the spot

                    note: the silk is not wasted since commerce will be transferred through the city.

                    research: Alphabet, max funding
                    production: scout
                    worker: north, building mines and roads
                    scout squad#1 to the south

                    3750 BC:
                    production: warrior
                    scout squad#2 to the north

                    3700 BC:
                    north is dead end, so scout squad#2 returns to south

                    3650 BC:
                    contacts with greece, they have alpha, no good trade possible, funding stopped (science on 0%)

                    3550 BC:
                    production: warrior

                    3400 BC:
                    production: settler

                    3350 BC:
                    scout squad#2 finds useless map

                    3300 BC:
                    contacts with rome.
                    trade with greece: give pot, masonry get alpha, bw, 10 g
                    reasearch: writing (full funding)

                    3200 BC:
                    contacts with carthage.

                    3000 BC:
                    production: Pyramids

                    2950 BC:
                    scout squad#2 finds another useless map

                    2900 BC:
                    founded "eternal softness"
                    production granary

                    2270 BC:
                    almost whole continent explored, barbarian camp near eternal softness :/ on a mountain :/

                    2230 BC:
                    researched writing, going for philosophy

                    2150 BC:
                    granary complete, starting settlers
                    trade with rome: give mas, pot get iw wc 10g
                    trade with carth: give iw, get cb 5g
                    i'm only one with writing, others are tech equal

                    I'm realy behind according to the others, but i still feel confident with my build (scout, warrior, warrior, settler, pyramids)

                      AU505, Demi-God Level
                      AU Mod (I think!)


                      I am in somewhat of a dilemma. After due consideration of my current real-life commitments, not to mention my rather full PBEM and Demo-game schedules, but taking into account my full and unwavering commitment to AU since the release of C3C , I decided my best course of action in this game would be a quick exit via the renowned “Demi-God difficulty on an average start with no-attacking-AI cities” strategy

                      So away went Abe into the wilderness to see what he could do for his ancient tribe of explorers.

                      4000BC: Settled Washington on the spot after surveying the surrounding area with the Scout and Worker, and nothing more tempting came up. Plus, I get an instant luxury without having to build a road. Worker moved to BG to road and mine.

                      A quick Warrior first, and then a Granary methinks. Alphabet to be researched first.

                      3800BC First Warrior built. That’s enough for now – without any high food tiles nearby for a quick Settler or Worker, it’s a Granary next!

                      3750BC: Scout pops CB. Finds border of another civ – looks like Rome.

                      3700BC: Yeh, it’s Rome. Trade them Masonry + Pottery + CB for Alphabet + Warrior Code + 10g. Switch to Writing.

                      3400BC Found Greece. Gave them Pottery for BW.

                      3100BC: Found Carthage. Gave them WC for 25g (at DG level, they would surely pick it up soon anyway).

                      2750BC: First Settler built.

                      2630BC: New York founded

                      2630BC: Settler popped from a hut near Rome……now how are we going to get him back home without an escort? Well, perhaps he’d better secure our southern border against further AI expansion.

                      2550BC: Writing discovered, Philosophy next. Traded Writing to Carthage for the Wheel + IW + 33g. We then discovered Rome has HBR but won’t trade it for Writing. Ah, the joys of Demi-God

                      2430BC: First Curragh built, sent south.

                      2270BC: Philadelphia settled with our goody hut boy who managed to make it back across the plains alive , south of our empire and as close to the border of Rome as I dare, near the bonus Wheat. A Warrior has been dispatched to provide some nominal defense.

                      2150BC: Next Settler built in Washington. Time for some more units, while Settler and Worker duty will soon be transferred to New York upon completion of the Granary.

                      Unfortunately a barb gets to Philadelphia before our Warrior and steals a third of our treasury. What such a large sum of money was doing unguarded in a border town, one can only guess!

                      Anyway, the first DAR has concluded and we are in reasonable shape, but with few expectations of being able to out-REX Rome. We are trailing in tech by Mysticism, but hope to snag Philosophy first.

                        Regent level, AU mod

                        I didn't take notes, this is from the play back after the game eneded.

                        I build Washington on the starting tile and built another Scout to explore and pop goodie huts. The goodie huts were the key.

                        I built Boston next to the Iron and managed to pop a hut on the eastern side of the contenent that became New York. This gave me control of two Luxuries.

                        By 1000BC I had three cities.

                        I figure that I need to keep things peaceful. The way I tried was to keep three defenders in each city. This is usually enough to keep the AI detired.

                        I built a barracks and Grainery in Washington. I was going to crank out Spear/Settler pairs to grab some land.

                          My first dar (even if i played the previous AU course)
                          and it's quite short...
                          Monarch level, stock rules.
                          Washington founded on the hill NW of starting spot,
                          built a second scout to explore, then granary.
                          But when I was dreaming of a nice peaceful expansion,
                          I lost in 2800BC when a Greek warrior entered my undefended capitol.
