  • Free AU ideas ^^

A couple ideas popped up in my head this afternoon for possible AU courses - one fun and one more serious

    Fun : Classic Civ

Take Civ back to it's origins, and play as one onf the 14 original civs against the usual opponents! Remember how they were paired off by color? So it'd be Player + 6 AI, maybe even on a smaller earth map to keep it in Civ1 scale (elmencey has some nice size maps there) I guess you'd have to manually select the other 6, but could still be interesting

    Serious : Barbarian Horde

Or more simply, the zero culture game. No culture producing buildings, period. Not even wonders. You win by conquest or domination though cultural will be left on so you'll have to keep an eye on the AI civs to keep them from winning. Med to small map I'd think so the AI doesn't win culture absurdly easily. Also, your civ could only be a combo of Militaristic, Industrious, Expansionist or Agricultural. Republic/Demo not allowed either, because those are kinda 'high-concept' - you are barbarians remember? ^^

I mean this one to encourage specailist/slider use which is something I am admittedly lax on but it sure is a big part of higher level games, from reading thru various DAR's and Demo Games!

So am I crazy? Either of those sound good?
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Interesting... we need to start a thread queuing up ideas for future games.

I, also, have been thinking of using El Mencey's maps...
The greatest delight for man is to inflict defeat on his enemies, to drive them before him, to see those dear to them with their faces bathed in tears, to bestride their horses, to crush in his arms their daughters and wives.

hm, living without culture buildings can get quite tricky the later in the game. temple+cathedral+sistine's keeps iirc 7 people content. i fear the lux slider will be up veeeery high most of the time and city spacing will be tight.

      but a good idea!

uh, I could volenteer, uh, a map if you like 31 civs and 200x200 jumbo size...

But the AU mod would be required (because stock is kinda screwed because the tech race is easily manipulated, and some civs are slightly backwards...)
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

          The Barbarian Horde sounds interesting.
