In fact, we'll need to make sure the optional graphics download is not used even for those who have downloaded it since the elimination of Radio makes it inaccurate, right? Or am I missing something?

Did you want Sid for AU501? That would be have been quite the challenge...

It would have been, but Dromons could have been used to allow you to claim those two western islands and have a decent shot at it. Seafaring (Alphabet) would have given the shot at the GL you need. Then Japan would have been pretty easy (for a Sid AI) to take with Pikes and Med Inf.

Resources later on would have been a pain..

          Re: Waiting for 1.20f
Jesse recently posted on the 1.20 thread in the Conquests forum. Since the patch does not differ much from 1.15b - at least in ways that we can't do ourselves - for SP, and we don't seem to have a hard date, I wonder if it might not be worthwhile to just remove Radio ourselves (in the mod) and go as soon as the next version of the Mod is released if it is ready before 1.20f and we still don't have a hard date from Jesse...

The biggest differences between 1.15b and 1.20f seem to be for MP and PBEM.

The problem with not waiting for 1.20 and removing Radio from the AU mod is for people who refuse to install beta patches and for others who don't want to play a mod.

Before making a decision, let's see if we get news about the 1.20 release date next week.

Good plan. Go with 1.15 next weekend if the patch hasn't shown up, or definitely about to show up.

I would like to see a nice AAR for Sid. How are you getting the GL?
I have managed to beat the AI to Lit, but but never had a good enough prebuild to finish the wonder first.

I even went to Pottery before Writing and got to Lit first. AI got to Phil first because of it, but I felt I needed Granary.

Often I am isolated and don't have Mason to use a palace.

So by all mean Aeson do show us how Sid should be played.

What about just using the regular game and setting up a specific thread for it? Each team would be free to vote for his own 'best save'.

BTW, anybody interesting in a Sid 'dream-team'? Just for learnig purposes, of course...

The only problem I see with an SG that uses the current course is:
If you play the course personally and in the SG, how do you compartmentalize the information gained in one from the other? Either your SP game would get a boost from your SG or vice versa.

Just a thought - it seems you'd want to/need to recuse yourself from one or the other to not taint the "later" one.

Unless I don't understand completely how you meant that MS.

As a side note, I've never played an SG but am very interested in trying one.

                      Ok, back to basics:

                      1. Ducki, vmxa1 and MS are a team (just as an example).
                      2. We all download the 'vanilla' AU502 on Sid level.
                      3. We play individually until, let's say 1500BC.
                      4. We post our AAR's, DAR's etc + screenshots and saves on our specific AU502 'dream-team' thread.
                      5. We vote for the best play so far.
                      6. We upload the save of the chosen game.
                      7. Step 3 to 6 again.

We don't vote for other teams and other teams (or individuals) don't vote for us, of course, so it's a kind of hybrid play. Comments are of course welcome.
We don't have to set a specific victory condition at the beginning of the game, we can discuss on it later on (assuming we manage to get as far as believing we can win!).
We can play with the AU mod or not.

Above all, we use the KIS(S) rule and try to have LOTS of fun.

I think Ducki's point is that people like me who want to play the game as a regular game can't do that and play it as a team game both without one contaminating the other. Granted, we could play to 1500 BC without contamination, but after 1500 BC, everyone but the player whose save is chosen would have to play two different games in order to play both ways. Thus, the only people you are likely to get for a team game are those who are more interested in that than in playing it as a conventional single-player game. In contrast, a team game separate from the regular AU games would not have to compete so directly with single-player play for interest.

Well yes, either you play individually or you play it as a team (member). Even if I wanted to do it both ways I wouldn't have the time.
I'm offering this possiblity for players who want to analyze in deep the other team members' achievements and ways of doing things, as we would get the saves. Since I'm proposing of doing this at Sid level, I tought it would be interesting.
Now don't understand me wrongly: I'm absolutely not trying to 'twist' the AU rules. If my proposal is 'vetoed down', that's fine for me. I will play it individually and if somebody is interested in a collective game at Sid level I can always create a new thread. Just let me know.
