  • AU 601 SP Version DAR 1C: Until Gunpowder or Discovery of Islands

This thread covers the final part of what is the DAR 1 period in the MP games, lasting until either you discover Gunpowder or you discover an island.

Please do NOT post anything in this thread that reveals the location of Saltpeter or of any islands!!! That information could be a spoiler for MP games.

Players involved in MP games should not read this thread until they have the entire Pangea revealed and have entered the middle ages.

How much territory were you able to claim before your neighbors closed in on you? Have you fought any interesting wars? What, if anything, have you done to try to harrass your Greek or Roman adversaries? What are your plans for the future?

The Age of Wars, or Psychopaticus Maximus at his best…

    1050BC:
‘You WANT 30 gold from us? I’m ready to give you 50 gold’ Psychopaticus Maximus purred to the GT ambassador, ‘if you tell me frankly who your real father was…’

MS comments: From that moment, things went downhill with the GT.

    925BC:
The Celts completed the Pyramids and our 1st Legionary leaves its barracks.

    875BC:
Egypt completed the Mausoleum of Mausollos.

    850BC:
‘Ah, so you’re the other one who still believes your official father is the true one?’ Psychopaticus Maximus asks the Persian ambassador. ‘Come back when you know the real answer and I will give you the secret of Monarchy.

    MS comments:

    825BC:
The GT completed the Temple of Artemis.

    690BC:
We entered our Golden Age. Our Army destroyed 4 GT Swordsmen on its way north and lost 2 HP.

Traded Monarchy for Construction and 24 gold with Carthage. The Statue of Zeus will be completed in 9 turns.
The war with the GT is doing well; we have now 3 elite Archers. We didn’t see any Persian units yet, but we know they will come. Carthage is expanding again, so we will have to take care of them soon. Currency in 5 turns at –5 gpt and we have only 48 gold left. Then we will enter a new Age.

Athens completed the Hanging Gardens. Started the Heroic Epic in Rome.

        630BC:
We entered the Middle Ages. Researching Engineering.

        610BC:
We declared war on Carthage and bopped a Settler team. We are now at war with 3 civs. Psychopaticus Maximus is REALLY happy.

        590BC:
Babylon completed the Great Lighthouse. Persia landed a lonely Horseman near our capital.

        570BC:
‘My dear, tell me, who is your father? Psychopaticus Maximus asks the Egyptian ambassador. After hearing his reply, he shakes his head and tells to nobody in particular ‘ and I hoped that at least one ambassador was more or less normal’ He sights then and utters a single word ‘Niet’.

        MS comments:
Egypt declared war on us when we refused to give them Literature.

        530BC:
We completed the Statue of Zeus.

        470BC:
The GT completed the Great Wall.

        450BC:
We completed the Heroic Epic in Rome.

        430BC:
‘I like your honest and truthful answer’ Psychopaticus Maximus says to the Celtic ambassador. ‘Now, what help can you give us for the secret of Currency?’

        MS comments:
The Celts declared war on the GT. It seems that our gift of Currency helped a bit…

              390BC:
Made peace with Persia for nothing, but at least we have one foe less.

              310BC:
‘A Summer Palace? Why not? Might be fun!’

              MS comments:
Our 2nd MGL, Hadrian walked this earth and we built the FP in Leptis Minor.
As a general rule, I prefer to keep my capital where it is instead of palace jumping around (yes, I am sentimental for such things). In this case, keeping it at its present location would soon make it off-centre, as my empire would grow west, then north. However, my FP in Leptis Minor would give me a nice boost in an area still unsettled, an investment for the future.

Our wars were doing well. We captured Hanover NE and Bremen (NW) will fall next to our units). Engineering is 3 turns away. Our treasury is only of 30 gold, so some trade will be necessary soon.

              290BC:
Sabratha (Carthage) fell into our hands.

              250BC:
‘Ah, he’s not the real son of his father’ Psychopaticus Maximus mused philosophically.

              MS comments:
The traitorous Celts made peace with the GT, so we did the same and traded peace + Engineering for peace, Monotheism and Feudalism. On the same line, we made peace with Egypt.

              230BC:
              Carthage completed the Great Library.

              190BC:
              Byzantium founded.

              170BC:
We made peace with Carthage for 2 cities and 81 gold.

              110BC:
Traded Engineering for the Republic with Greece. Now we REALLY start to rock! 19 cities, 2 Settlers, Theology in 14 turns.

              30AD:
Our new government is called ‘Republic’.

              210AD:
              The GT completed Sun Tsu.

              300AD:
‘A civ which doesn’t know who the real fathers are is really pathetic. Let’s put it out of its misery’.

              MS comments:
We declared war on Carthage, the war to end all wars. During the siege of Leptis Magna, another MGL distinguished himself.

                    310AD:
With the fall of Carthage we conquered the Great Library. It gave us Invention and Chivalry, 1 turn before we discovered Education. In the meantime, Persia completed the Sistine Chapel.

                    320AD:
                    The GT completed Knights Templar.

                    350AD:
The war with Carthage ended. They have 1 city left somewhere. We are masters now of the south of our continent.

                    490AD:
With Economics, we completed the north branch.
