  • Hall of Fame / Tournaments

This is very cool... for those not following, scroll up to the very top of the page, and look at the announcement in the center.

Since, AU 501 and 503 are both relatively recent, I'd suggest that, for those who still have them, we kickstart by submitting our final saves for those two games.

I'm not sure I understand the process for judging / awarding performance, especially given the comments re AU in the FAQ. I think NM, and maybe Krill, had posted some threads on that subject... I'll try to find them.

Beyond that, conmcb25's reaction in the AU 501 thread is great too... If people want to replay older games for HoF/Tournament purposes, well, godd bless'em!!

    As always...

    /me beating a dead horse

... we need to figure out a publicity strategy for this, and prolly assign someone to manage the whole effort.

    Thanks again, Mark!!

    And, uh, erm, Aeson?

About that 2nd tournament way back when?

This is a repeat of what I posted in a thread called "CivIII and 'poly" last summer:

"FYI, here is what Kon posted at MZO:

Theseus, what do you mean by judging/ awarding performance? You mean as a separate thing from the HoF?

I'm not sure how Mark intends that the HoF be used... the Tournaments ranking seems to be by score, with highlights for different win types. But the HoF? Seems to be in-line with some of our thinking about 'coolness'.

My first variant game... 2CC. No idea why I didn't go OCC, but probably wasn't brave enough to try it.

Just givin' you grief... I would've gotten about 500 pts back then.

So, anybody have thoughts on how to capitalize on having a renewed HoW and Tournaments?

If we put down every single AU course from now on, it's a great organizer, and a great way to attract people. It also helps if we decide to do awards.

Dom, I think, said a while ago: competition and awards attract people.

Let's just keep it uniquely 'poly.

the results page can also be sorted by date

and you can also filter a specific victory type or level

as for awards, we need three things:
                    1) small icons for each one of them
                    2) gramphos to code the "automatic" awards (e.g. fastest domination win)
                    3) gramphos to code some way for giving away the non-automatic awards (e.g. Best After Action Report)
(probably an extra field for the save games, editable only by the hof managers)

anyway, it would be wonderfull if people submitted their existing games for the currently in AU courses.
btw NM tells me he plans to add more of them...

                      and
                      4) the AU community sending a thank you mail to gramphos for the coding. if it werent for him the hof would still be in my wishfull thinking

Thanks for starting this thread Theseus

And thanks for answering our questions MarkG.

And a REALLY BIG thanks to Graphmos for doing all this coding

Now here is my specific question posted in AU 501.

Can we replay saves for existing AU games that were issued prior to the rebirth of the Tournamemnt/HOF?

The reason why Im asking is that I did not keep the .savs from it and I certainly didn't keep the autosave. No reason too really.

But here are the rules from the Tourney/HOF page:

                        Rules/Guidelines

                        - You can submit only one game
                        - You must use autosave so that you have the last turn before your win
                        - Use of exploits (like the 1mil gold bug) or external programs is not allowed
                        - If you want to replay the game, feel free to do so and post a game in the tournament`s forum thread(not the HoF)
This tells me that we CAN NOT replay for the HOF. So the only people who could forward a save for the HOF is either:

                        1. A person who has not played yet.
                        2. A person whom played previously and kept the last auto.sav prior to victory/defeat.

Im asking this because my suspicion is Im not the only one in this situation and this question is going to come up. I can live with it either way, I just need a ruling for the existing prior AU courses. From now on of course it should have to be the first game you play.

                        What do you guys think????

The downside I see to allowing replay is that someone who has already played has at least some prior map knowledge and that could be a big advantage.

                        Thoughts???

I don't see a problem with it for past games. It should be about having fun and getting participation anyway. So a blank pass should be given for all prior games and only enforce it for future events.

I doubt you will see massive use of replaying. Non submitters probably already read any post on the games.

                            I agree with vmxa1...

I think the prohibition against replaying, as stated, was that if you have submitted a save to the HoF, you cannot replay and submit another. Thus, replaying an older AU game and submitting that should be fine.

I will allow it, but you'd still need confirmation from Markos. As for the awards, let's discuss it in the Back to the Future thread, that way, we can keep the HoF discussion in this thread.
