    that sounds good. now i just need to get a third army

    another question: as i hardly ever get armies (because i seldom play over emperor and never militaristic civs), i don't know too much about them.

    i thought the stats increases by a sixth of the summed attack when you load units into them.
    but one of my armies now has 2 ACs in it. imho it should be have the stats 4,2,3 ((3+3)/6), but only 3,2,3 is displayed. what am i doing wrong?

    • I always thought armies just gave an extra movement point, might be wrong, but..

      • Here is the scoop from someone:

        So, if you load an army with all units the same type (as I've done in all cases so far in this game) and supposing those units are 6/3/3 (i.e. Cavalry) then:

        Attack bonus with:
        Neither Pentagon nor Military Tradition: (6+6+6)/6 = +3
        Pentagon only: (6+6+6+6)/6 = +4
        Military Tradition only: (6+6+6)/4 = +4 (rounded down)
        Both Pentagon and Military Tradition: (6+6+6+6)/4 = +6

        With Pentagon and Military Tradition, assuming you load 4 units of the same type into each army, the net result is to simply double their attack and defense stats, because the bonus is (4*X)/4 = +X Which makes a 4-Cavalry army into a 12/6/4 unit.

          They get th movement and the onus listed above as well as free pillage. IOW they can pillage a tile and it does not count as movement.

          Sabre, I don't play mil civs either, but I do play a lot of sid games, so armies are critical.

              exactly.

              with the current monarch unit support, the AI will never through out enough unit for really efficient leader farming.

              i got those 11 archers from persia and by now approx. the same many from germany and carthage each. adding to that, some spearmen, persian horsemen, german swordsmen... totalling to maybe 40 units. that's really not that much for the whole 4000 years so far.

              at sid, i'd probably get 40 per turn. but then, i'd now only have 3 cities and probably be waste by now
              just seeing dominae vs. krill's scores against AU demigod... now imagine that at sid

              vmxa, are you going to play the SP version?

                    Does Military Tradition give this bonus as well?

                    I think that the Military Academy in C3C gives a 25% bonus, and that the latest AU mod takes this away.

                        MA now doesn't require a victorious army and doesn't give that extra bonus

                        and now spawns an army every 25 turns.

                          not considering the AI caused happiness/wariness, andy will be at about -28 to -25 WW points. 2 for his redlined galley i sank and possibly some for the time my warrior walked through his territory scouting.

                          he'll only start feeling WW effects in republic with +30, so i'd need to make nearly 60 points. that's 30 attacks (successful or unsuccessful... doesn't matter) or 60 tiles pillaged/bombarded. i guess i'll send over some legionaries one day when i've got enough troops...

                              another great year!

                              i got another leader in battle, this time a legionary against a wounded horseman. as it was against persia, he straight away moved and formed another army. that makes 3... and now rome is switching to the pentagon while veii which had nearly completed libraries is going for the heroic epic. both will take over 10 turns to get, but now the heroic epic suddenly isn't that important anymore.

                              now i've got the problem of what to do with the new army.

                              i've only got 6 ACs until now (6th only just spawned) and one is waaaaay up north in germanic lands.

                              i could load it with legionaries, which would give me a 4,4,2 unit, or i could go for a medinf army (5,3,2)... or i could waste a lot of turns and save it for a knight army.
                              i've decided, NOT to decide yet... and will keep it empty for the moment.

                              • after this, i thought it's time to catch up in tech again and i sued for peace.

                                first persia, who was willing to give me feudalism for peace and an alliance against greece (yes... the first war i did not initiate ). i had to throw in a part in cash and a part in gpt... which in the aftermath was stupid, as the next deal (iron for max gpt (9)+max g (131) would have allowed me to take more cash and not now pay my approx. 7gpt to persia. at that point i had thought that greece would pay persia out of the war once immortals showed up, so i wanted most possible in gpt.

                                unfortunatly no screenshot came through for the peace deal, but i've got one of the iron deal
