Before going on with the details let me mentioned my thinking or at least an attempt at it.
    I asked these questions:

    1) where is the missing civ
    2) when to trigger GA
    3) how to bust America
    4) what to do with the leader
    a) wonder
    b) army
    c) structure
    d) palace move
    5) any new cities needed in current land holdings

#1 is plain, it must be in the lower right someplace

#2 will hold until at war with US and hopefully building a wonder

#3 no plan to start with, will wait and see

#4 This is the hardest one. I felt a wonder was not likely. I passed on Sun Tzu as I did not want to pay maint on all those barracks and I did not need them all. GLIB is not worth anything at this point, so maybe Sistine or Leo? Not Leo, we can afford to buy up grades as we need them. Sistine, I think it will be awhile before I have the tech and will have a large empire, so I will chance making it on my own and do not want to hold a leader that long. So it is a palace move to either Aydad or Tokyo.

#5 I see no immediate need for a settler.

250AD America make a fuss over a worker that was in their
land after the borders expand. I agree to move.
They declare war anyway and sneak attack, I think it
      was at Shiraz.
Answar triggers GA and I upgrade as many units as I can
for the rest of my turns until all done. Well I think I have
      one sword sitting some place.

      260 Damascus start cath
      Najran - cath
      Shiraz - cath
Researchat 70%, 4 turns. I failed to note what though.

      270 Kyoto - cath
      Medina - colosseum
Aydad - rushed the palace now that the road
      is completed.
      Mecca switched to Sistine

280 Yam - starts a barracks. It is not able to add much
anyway and we need more troops.
      Muscat - cath
      Fez - market
      Aydad - granary
lost gems, so made another trade (Gunpowder)
      captured Boston and start temple

      290 Osaka - market
      Kufah - Answar
      Mansura - cath
      Aleppo - market
      autoraze New Orleans
      razed Detroit
      Researching 30%
Yam switched to settler to fill the area by those cities

contact with England after over shooting it.
They were very backward and I sold a few to
get 250 of the 258 they had. This was very useful
as the upgrades were going slow.

340 Kyoto - barracks to upgrade all the units out there.
        Medina - uni
        Kufah - Answar
        Edo - market

350AD Researching Banking (yeah I passed on Chem for now)

          Tokyo - market
          Shiraz - market

Knight + warriro + settler shows up by Shiraz?
I used two answar to kill them. I had a bunch there to
defend an attack from the nearby city.

I messed up and put the leader on the galley as I was afraid of it getting killed. I drop it off and made an army. Yes I passed up
any wonder building. I wanted an army to attack those size 11
cities amd they have the great wall.
I used the Answar that made the leader and two vets.

            380AD Osaka - lib
            Kufah - Answar
            Fez - lib
            Bayt - market

I may have messed up my time line and offset it, not sure if this was still 380 or 390.

            Fuscat - uni
            Muscat - uni
            Manssura - barracks
            Aleppo - aqueduct
Here is when I made the army

            390AD Baghdad - colo
            Basra - Answar
            Aydad - market
Carthage sent a Num and a settler into our land.
I ignored them as they will take forever to get anywhere.
            Eventually they just turned around.

            400 Kyoto - market
            Mosul - market

410 Founded Suhar and started temple
Army did some pillaging around Dc to cut off the capitol.

              Anjar - market
sold cntact with England all around. I think I have forget to
              note a few trades.

              Najran - market
              Edo - lib

              Mansura - aqueduct
              Buhkara - uni
              Fez - cath
              Shiraz - lib
I sunk a galley by Miami and made elite
              working on Copernicus and Sistine
England is on par with other. I traded for Ivory.

America has 5 cities left (IIRC). One large one, need to get the army healed and then get it. Many markets/libs/unis are done or underway. I have had to hold back on some of the outer cities for fear of attacks. I suspect that is much less likely now. I need to get DC connected. Will escort workers to do it. I want to get the city that was cut off (seattle?) It no longer has the GW.

I forgot to mention that I am starting to lose the fight over defenders thoughts. To that end, I intended to start moving some
muskets to the city that blocks Carthage. I already built a barracks in case of wars. We will need troops there to attack them anyway and I do not want to have them come before I am ready. It has an Answar and a Musket at least now. If they were to show up with 4 or 5 knights, it could be rough.
I also want to have some down time after the US conflict to reduce any war weariness. We would lose the imported diamonds and that would hurt, until we could grab them.
Only England has the requiste tech to trade outside of our contient.
The Answar have done fairly well in combat. Two battles went bad, that I recall. One where I tested the city by Miami (Seattle?).
It was size 6. The other was when a MI came out of that city and killed an Answar (may have been damage). The next turn I hit it with one Answar and it was killed. I hit it with an Elite Answar and it won and made a leader. So I lost 4 of them and took down only 1 MI, maybe I got one defender in the city I forget.
That city is now without the GW and is size 4, so it should be much easier.
Also three Answars that hit DC all retreated with 1 HP.
IOW they will not make great defenders. I recall another incident where an Answar defended a large city and it was killed.

50 AD: let’s review what we have:
                      - 1 tech advance (min.): Education.
                      - A ‘weak’ military: 13 Horses and 8 Spears.
                      - 1 GL.
                      - The building sequence is geared up for peace.
                      - The FP is located in Basra.

Now, are we going to war with America? The goals would be:
                      - To get the Oracle (+) and the GWall (-).
                      - To get some luxuries and good terrain.
                      - To take out a (possible) competitor.

To do this, we would have to switch to a purely military build-up for at least 20 turns (barracks and Horses), plus the time of the war itself. If we were to wait for Ansars, we would have to pile up some gold and wait until Chivalry.
In the meantime, since we are in Republic, our military would cost us about 50 gold every turn.

                      Therefore, let’s try a builder’s approach.
All ‘new’ town are switched to temple, all others to marketplace, then library, aqueduct, granary etc.
In the meantime, our forces will move E (you never know…).

As for the tech race, we are aiming for Gunpowder (slow defensive build-up), then for Economics and Smith TC, then Democracy.
We can then trade Economics and Democracy for Astronomy (if already researched) and other ‘low branch’ techs.
We will not research at max. speed, as to max. our gold.

Gold: the main goal is to gat a huge cash horde for: interests (+50 gold/turn), upgrade of Horses to Ansars, factories (I know, those are a bit in the future, but with 10’000-15’000 gold you can hurry production of a dozen of them at least).

Happiness: the luxury slider is set at 0% and we will compensate with our luxuries, the ones traded with our techs and temples + marketplaces. At this stage, WLTKD is not necessary, as long as we have no entertainers.

                      The milestones:

90 BC: Palace moved to Bayt Ras. Not very productive, but with 29 Workers, the land around should be developed quite rapidly.

130 BC: Gunpowder discovered. Researching Theology in 6 turns +17 gold.
Also discovered the English. What, no embassies? Now we have +7 embassies and – 450 gold.
Traded Philosophy, HR and Polytheism with the English for 204 gold and WP.
Traded around contact with the English for 160 gold. Nobody has any gold to pay for Invention…

170 AD: Mordor tried to blackmail us for Gunpowder. Ah, this evil black land…

190 BC: Suhar founded by the spices N.
Traded Invention around for 60 gold. Not the best deal… Traded spices and the Republic for ivory with the English.

210 AD: Babylon declared war on the Black Land. We sent a ‘good luck’ message by carrier pigeon.

230 AD: Taif founded near the old ruins by the coast.
Theology discovered. We are researching Education in 6 rounds.

250 AD: traded our WP around for 75 gold.

290 AD: Education discovered, Banking in 6 turns.
Traded Education for Chivalry and 66 gold, + 4 per turn. We’ll forget the Ansars for now.

350 BC: Babylon tried to hire us to fight for them against the Black Land. No luck (for them).
Researched Banking, Economics in 6 turns.

360 AD: India joined Mordor against Babylon. Our pigeon flew out again…

420 AD: Economics discovered, going for Democracy in 5 turns, + 24 gold/turn.
Traded Banking with Mordor for Printing Press, 97 gold and 7/turn.

                      What did we achieve?

                      Score: Ottomans 943, Mordor 683, America 597.
                      Democracy in 1 turn.
                      2’839 gold.
Small military (the same as in 50 AD plus 5-6 Musketmen).

Mecca is building Sistine Chapel in 38 turns; if it’s too slow, it will switch to Smith TC.
Kufah is building the Place in 55 turns as holder either for Smith TC or something else (Newton’s?).

Well I finally talked myself into playing

I got all the ports and the Carthage/American borders garrisoned (1 musket in ports, musket + med inf on enemy senrty on the borders), Carthage moved that warrior around, I have him pinned on the coast in old Japan. I know, paper thin defense but it makes me antsy Only 3 turns from Miltary Tradition, and I've built up 25 Ansar + another 5 on the way who can all be upgraded to Cav cheaply thanks to Leo's in Mecca (that's what I did with the leader). I'd have more cash, but I bought education off the Black land (instead of waiting a couple turns and tradin metallurgy *slaps forehead*), I just decided to head straight down the lower path.

                            Future plans:
                            - use cav SOD to grab America's wonders (if I'm lucky they'll build Sistine too so maybe I'll hit Carthage first as soon as our gems deal runs out) or Carthage for the monopoly on gems
                            - Annex backward Germany for their silks
                            - perhaps England as well for the Ivory

Wait.......which team do I think I'm on anyway?

Edit: the economy figures are slightly off, I'm trimming resaerch to the min needed to complete in order to gain some upgrade gold
