  • Happiness strangeness (Seeds of Greatness scenario)

There is a city named Mallia in the attached savefile where the martial law is completely ignored.
It is Fantastic Worlds, deity, the strangeness works also with a standard rules.txt file.
    Any explanation?

I would like to take a look, but my versions of Civ refuse to load your save.

Also my Civ2 MGE doesn't take the saves. I played on Civ2 FW (made from Civ2 Classic by the Cedric Greene's patch).

what does the happiness analysis screen show? As a first guess I would say that there are at least as many double-unhappy citizens as there are martial law units. I've noticed during revolutions to democracy that we need at least enough martial law units to convert 1 unhappy citizen to content before it shows on the happiness analysis screen (and all double-unhappy citizens get converted to unhappy before any unhappy get converted to content via martial law). Do you have a whole lot of cities on a small map?

It is a city of size 1.
Happiness analysis shows just one (basic) line: 1 black hat. There may be 5 combat units, but the line with martial law is missing.
But If I add a temple (without Mysticism), everything starts to be correct, including the martial law.

I changed the city to size 2: standard hapiness is 1 black and 1 red hat.
First unit is ignored for the martial law, but if I add second, everything starts to be correct.

The map is 171x115, despotism, 11 cities.

I think I understand now. I knew that the martial law effect is not shown sometimes. It looks it is not shown if citizens are changed only from black hat to red hat.

Now everything is understandable (the martial law works max. once on each citizen).

There are loads of threads explaining exactly how unhappiness works, and quirks with double unhappies. DaveV has lots of posts on this.......search for threads from this forum.

                  That'll certainly do.

There are many threads on this topic though.....I'm sure some are in this forum.
