    Check out the 'Hard Times' succession game start

    Those small maps will do that sometimes... especially if you're purple!

      That would even be good for a restart in an MP game.

        if you play purple on a tiny rock in mp you get these starts once in a blue moon, they happen more in sp mode i have noticed....

          Lol nice start.......though in SP it is fun to try and play them, at least if there some land to the south.

          MP=toast.

                  Yeah you don't get it often, but sometimes you have a city with a small amount of tundra, or you found near a pole and have a couple of squares of tundra. I can think of specials I'd rather have though.

                    you dont' even get trade if you road it...that IMO in mp is a waste, unless you build on a mountain to make a canal to come out the other side, then the food is welcome, otherwise, screw it....

                      I always suspected my starts were cursed.

                      But seriously, I don't believe I've ever seen a game-generated map that has polar areas. I really liked SMAC maps in that respect. I usually play on Large worlds, though. Maybe that's the reason?

                        yes that is the reason, never had a polar start on a large world, or even a medium one...its small only IIRC and usually only happens to purple or orange

                          Yeah the way the game places the settlers makes polar starts unlikely for larger maps.
