  • DD's OCC/conquest challenge

The other day I was playing an OCC game when I had to leave for a few minutes. MY 8 year old son decided to take over for me. When I came back he had built an army and started to take over other cities. It was as if the pacificst city-state governor had gotten overthrown by Adolph Hitler. Anyway, that gave me the idea for a new challenge:

What is the longest someone can go with 1 city and still win the game by conquest.

I was using this file when we played but I suppose any would do.

Oftentimes I have played a game as OCC right up till the spaceship has been launched and then switched to conquest mode, attempting to take over the world before arrival at AC. I call this a 'biathlon'. If it's a 15-1-1-1-1-1 ship, there are 36 turns for world conquest ... usually that's plenty of time.

Sampson, yes, I've done that too.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Thats similiar to what I was talking about but not quite the same.

I'm wondering if someoncan stay with 1 city til say 2010 then win by conquest before 2020. If so, can someone wait until 2011 etc, etc, etc.

            DD,

It's entirely possible to conquer the world without ever building or occupying a second city. You just need to reduce all other cities to size1, by pounding or poisoning, before overrunning them. I should think this could be done by the early 1900s with a good OCC starting location. I'm not sure I see the reason for waiting until 2019 to crush the last city though.

In fact, I'd wager a body could conquer the world with a single city that never grew past size1 itself, if he was to put his mind to it.

            Rah,

Last time I played conquer-the-world-after-launch, I was down to one AI city the turn before AC arrival. I nuked the city and dropped a paratrooper (at maximum range) on a road to it. He ran out of movement points just outside the city. Arrrghhhh.

I guess you are right if you go about it that way. I was thinking more of the situation I outlined in the beginning. (i.e. you are a total pacifist until you decide to take over the world)
