  • Limits of trade

I carried out some tests to find the maximum limits for trade in Civ2.
Note: I have the MGE version and have the "No Limits" patch.

    Here are the results:

Maximum trade per city: 20160 trade arrows

Maximum tax collected per city: 63137 gold

Maximum science collected per city: 137856 beakers

Maximum luxuries collected per city: 43047 cups

Maximum production per city: 20055 shields

Maximum one time bonus per caravan: 4848 gold

Maximum addition to trade per caravan: 2275 gold

Maximum income per turn: 55537 gold

By using the cheat menu, of course. I created maximum size cities, modified the terrain to maximum productivity, modified the tile improvements to give maximum productivity bonus and did everything else to maximize the given variable. Then I varied the desired variable to see if it changes as I decrease efficiency, change government to a less efficient one, etc. On top of this I used the hotseat mode with double production turned on.

The limit for income is absolute - after you have more income than this per turn, it goes into negative.

The limit for the one off bonus from caravans is also absolute. It does not go into negative, but it does not increase either if you increase trade, or distance of the two cities further.

The rest of the limits are practical in nature. They could probably be increased further, but there is simply no way to squeeze more of the variable out of the city than I already did.

        I dont get it.

The city produced all this in one turn?

          ahhhhh.....

That will be interesting to know the same on normal game settings.

Yes, the city produced this in one turn. The reason why this is possible is that I modified the terrain to produce 127 of each resource per tile per turn. Further 127 was added due to improvments of the tile (roads, etc.) and this was further doubled by using double production in hotseat mode. This means that each tile produced 498 of each resource per turn. This was further increased by city improvements and wonders.

The purpose of this exercise was to find the limits of the game engine - at what point do the variables brake down.

Could you please remind me: when is Slovakia planning to join EEC (we might have use for this, after a few months of mad cow and foot and mouth)?
