  • The High Council: Unseen footage

I was bored this afternoon, and I was exploring the Civ II CD. I found the high council .avi files, and played them. If you have never done this, I suggest you do.

There are 3 files (1 for each period) that are long, back to back council statements from each advisor. You know: "Give me more soldiers, noble leader, so that they may sheathe their swords in the beating hearts of our enemies..." etc.

There are some sections in here that I have never seen in actual game play that are absolutely hilarious, like the science advisor in the medieval period:
"The very cobblestones in our streets possess more knowledge than we do. In truth, Sire, ...[looks over his shoulder]... We suck!" ROTFLMAO!

Most of the best messages are ones you recieve when a given advisor's area is extremely lacking (like the Modern trade advisor when you still do not possess the trade technology -- which is one of the funniest)

Also, there is a lot of extremely hostile bickering between the advisors that never seems to make actual game play... Have you ever seen the diplomatic advisor spit (Medieval, Modern)?

I wonder why some of this stuff never comes out during a game...

One day I accidently consulted the High Council during a period of anarchy ... and they cracked me up. They were all yelling at each other at the same time. "Who told you this was going to happen? I told you this was going to happen." etc, etc.

yeah, that crappy message in the game... what messy science politics I must have been playing there

          Done that!

I think that the Medieval Science Advisor message:
"The very cobblestones in our streets possess more knowledge than we do. In truth, Sire, ...[looks over his shoulder]... We suck!" and the Modern Trade Advisor message: "Traaade!! Discover Traaade!! ..."
          Are the best indeed! LOL

Yeah, some of the advisor scenes are really hilarious... I also like the medieval trade advisor, saying:

"We're rich, sire! Rich, RICH RICH!!!"

"TRAADE, SIR! Trade! Here's you! Here's a clue! Get a clue! Discover trade!"

I wonder how someone could get to modern times w/o discovering trade tho'.

There're also some pretty venomous insults those advisors use for each other...

"Platehead" is the most scathing one I've heard...

                      What I did once is:
save, cheat mode, then go to each AI and consult the High council.
                      Lot of fun.

                        lol,

even militarily I never got the bad ships one.

I am wondering what parmeters are required to get those bad settings. I suppose if you haven't researched map making by the renaissance age you get that message.,

                        hilarious though

You have to have the CD in the drive, look into the folder labeled 'video', and there should be 3 sets of .avi files, one for each council period.
