  • Courthouses after Communism?

I know a lot of you don't use Communism, as Democracy has other advantages, but I have't got the hang of keeping people happy under Democracy and much prefer Communism.
My question is this - when you change to Communism, do you sell off any courthouses you have, or do you keep them in case of bribery?

Before I started OCC-ing, I went for Communism quite often, using the Statue of Liberty. Never built many Courthouses to begin with but the ones I had I would sell.

I use communism in multiplayer where i keep the courthouses. Never know when you'll need to stop bribing, or in extreme cases need to change your governement. They don't cost much each turn so no i don't see them.

I might be tempted to sell them if I was desperate for money... but there usually is a better way to get cash

Against the AI, I jump around between governments in the later part of the game depending on the situation.
Courthouses are nice to have around to make bribing harder, and for extra happiness in Democracy.

In MP games, I won't ever build them in the first place if we are playing a non bribe city game

Courthouses are valuable enough to have unless you are pinched for money, you never know when they might be handy just in case you switch govts. But what might your people resort to if they are not able to sue each other over petty things?

            Thanks for that, guys.
As I usually build the Trading Co, they don't cost me anything, so I normally keep mine unless I'm desparate for money (for bribing other cities, of course ).
A friend of mine always sells them though, on the basis that corruption is eliminated anyway under Communism.

I think I may have to give her a game and send in the spies to see if she changes her opinon.....

The real pain at war with Demo is not happiness (with one or two of the nice wonders ST, WS, CfC, or JSB, you can face it). It is the SENATE, the **** Senate never agreeeeeeeing with what you find reeeeeeasonable to decide.
Choosing commie before waging war is a good choice IMO.
But selling courthouses is a bad idea: they double the price for bribing your cities. So keep them, please, and if you need cash: go trading (or conquering fat civs, and if you don't feel you need cash: go trading; you need cash anyway, for a shorter war).

As I said, I usually keep mine (unless ABSOLUTELY deperate), it's my friend who sells them, which I think is a bad idea.

In any game where i build Adam Smiths, i always always build courthouses. In Democracy that extra happy person with trade routes, CFC, can make all the difference in a lower luxury rate, thereby celebrating more efficiently and devoting other resources to other things. Making my cities harder to bribe in MP is moot as i only play no city bribe games, but against the ai, its a good thing to build as the ai loves to bribe cities
