  • splitting the AI

I just had an incicident in which the american empire declared war on me again, so I took about 7 howies down and took their capital.
    THEY DIDN'T DIVIDE.
all that's left are me, the miniscule japanese, and the americans taking up two thirds of the world.
I remember the romans dividing several times while the americans were conquering them, so why didn't they divide for me?

The conditoins for causing civil war in a Civ are
    1) There must be 6 or less players (so there is someone for the rebels to become)
    2) You must be the most powerful when you take over their capital.

Sounds like the Americans were the most powerful civ at the time, so you taking over their capital didn't cause civil war.

Uh, Tizzy, i thought that if you captured the capital of the MOST powerfull empire, that empire would split. I don't believe it has anything to do with your own size.

The first time the romans were divided by the americans, they were they biggest civ in the world.

yeah it was my understanding, too, that you had to take the capital of the most powerful civ. It wouldn't make any sense if YOU had to be the most powerful civ...

Sounds like the Romans used up a lot of slots already. Were there any candidates left for a new tribe?

This happened way back in 2050 or so. the greeks and the indians had been wiped out previously. The americans went to war with the biggest civ on the planet, which was the romans. They took the roman capitol, and they split into the sioux. a handful of turns later the americans took the new roman capitol and they split into the carthaginians. The americans mopped up the board with them all, and became this enormous superpower. in 2875, I took their capitol and they didn't split. What gives?

I know, there are plenty of free slots. But if eg you already had all 3 yellow civs appear, you can't get a fourth one, or an old one back.

Isn't there some date after which new civs don't appear? That would then apply to AI splits, I would think.

I always sneak attack a civ, that I've been peaceful with forever. That's the only time I can cause a civil war. If I'm at war already it never works. Anywho...

The goal was to get an AI civil war, not one of your own civ

And if you really did mean AI civil war, it sounds like you let the AI civ live long and prosper by not trying to contain it while maintaining the peace

maybe the civ splitting no longer works after the retirement date? (similar to your score not getting recorded post-retirement)

HMMnnnn... Can't remember if the americans sneak attacked the romans back when they took their capitols. I think they were at war already.
the retirement date doesn't hold water. it was already 2050 or later when the americans divided and conquered the romans.

I don't know how to get this to happen. I declared anarchy and sneak attacked, took their capitol. I declared war and took their capitol. I waited until they declared war and took their capitol. I've been chasing their capitol around for 30 years. took it 3 times from a different city each time. My reputation is atrocious, and I STILL CAN'T GET THEM TO DIVIDE.
                              how do I do this?
