I have made a table comparing some important dates of the various players. It took some time going through all the logs and I may have missed some things so if I got anything wrong please let me know. The url is http://members.home.nl/paulvdb/occfort2.htm

      Paul,
First of all, congratulations. We are not worthy...

Thanks for putting the table up. Maybe to save your time in future we should all include this summary in our own logs.

        Paul,

Congratulations! Is this a record? I know 1803 was the old record, but I'm wondering how you would determine records in OCC.

After reading your OCC guide, I wasn't very sure about what type of game qualified as a record.

Also, in the strategy section, you mention that sometimes you may want to buy a granary -- have you bought a granary recently, or is this a older way of doing it?

Again, congratulations. Imagine wiping out the Spanish Armada of our own earth's history with fighters, bombers, and cruise missiles.

Well, I thought I'd try something a little different. I thought I could build a library early enough to make a difference and grow fast enough via WLTPD to close on the Colossus in reasonable time. I got almost no money from huts, nor could I successfully demand tribute from any civ when I met them.

Vik, the map was not edited and I had not played on it before so it counts as a record.

Also, I have added to my tables the pop 12 and 21 dates (yesterday) and the interval from Space Flight to Alpha Centauri (today). I also added turns from start in brackets with the intervals.

vik, Paul actually had a 1775 landing a couple of weeks ago. The 1779 landing I got in this last Monarchy game would have been the temporary record otherwise (something in the universe would not be right if Paul were not the current OCC record holder, even if for only a couple of days).

And don Don, I credit Brian Mulroney with the great starting techs and location. The computer must have detected my leaders name and decided I need all the help I could get.

(Oops, sorry for the double post. Noticed a spelling mistake and hit stop to fix it. I guess it had already gone through)

                  don Don,

Nice game! Did you really have to give the English all that money! Were they your ally? Money is so tight in my games that I almost always go to war over it.

Does anyone ever take money when an ally request your assistence in a war? I almost always do.

Paul, nice charts! Very telling stats.

Vik, are you in this contest? You should be!

i never signed up or whatever for the first one, so i'm not in on this, i guess.

i plan on trying this one out, but i don't think i could get it finished before the two weeks are over. lot of stuff happening at work.

besides, even if i play it, my results would most likely be considered tainted because i have looked at all these logs. i'll have an advantage that tom demille (and others) will not have had. i'll use this game to improve upon my personal record, and based on the other's results, it seems I have an excellent chance at accomplishing my sub-1825 goal i set for myself. BTW, congrats on your 1815 landing, aurelius, and congrats to nearly all of you for breaking your personal bests!

                          Aurelius,

No, I would never give money to an ally when I can dump one or two obsolete techs and pump them up to Worshipful. The English were hostile, and they would periodically demand money. Early in the game I told them no once and they didn't go to war. But by the next time they demanded money I didn't think they'd hesitate.

I had an Archer and a Legion blocking the expansion of the French. When they'd demand money I'd refuse, they'd beat a few chariots to death on my Fortressed Archer on the Mountain, and I'd send my Chariot on a Settler-search-and-destroy mission. That left me with an Archer in Montreal and a Chariot and two Horsemen to probe the English borders. By the last time they demanded money they had a city just my side of the ithsmus. I figured I'd be better off without being at war. They might pillage something and make a nuissance of themselves, and I'd feel paranoid enough waste the shields and money building a City Wall.

                              Paul,
I finally took a long look at your log. I thought you said before that you requested gifts/tribute only evey four or five turns. Here it looks more like every other turn.

I've also noticed that many times I don't get the "demand tribute" option with my non-allied neighbors, I think it's whenever the conversation starts with the "We offer peace and respect your boundaries" spiel.

I hate it when the manual isn't complete, and in non-OCC games I don't pay that much attention to diplomacy to know all the diplomacy dialogue options that aren't in the manual. I guess you have to say, "No, that is not acceptable" and hope they offer money. But when I do that I usually just end up with no money, no peace, just nuetral or cease fire relations.

Sorry I'm late - caught between the zones of control of the start of semester and a daughter who needs to play MM7 on our computer.
Finally, finished with a personal best of 1837 - which I think is the worst published this time round - well I'm still proud of it.
Will primp up my log to conform to the new standards and publish in an hour or so.

Paul: You are a deity at this game - this is unbelievable.

Perhaps once my log is up you guys might like to tell me where I made my big errors - other than forgetting a hydro plant completely!!!!

Tom: Thanks for a magnificent map

This is beginning to sound like an Oscar acceptance speech and I came last!
