  • AI Civ Dispositions

I was wondering if anyone had a list of the general dispositions of the AI civilizations (aggressive expansionist, civilized perfections, and the like) as well as any known definitions of the terms. Also, I'm curious as to the opinions in the Apolyton community of the most difficult AI civs to challenge. I find the Babylonians are generally the best computer opponent. I'd like to add the AI civ behavioral profiles to the Distilled Tips thread. Also, any other information regarding selecting a civ--advantages and disadvantages--would be appreciated. I've heard that the Romans generally get the best starting location as the computer seeds new civs by rating the starting locations and placing the Romans in the sweet spot, but this may or not be true. Thanks!

I seem to remember reading on one of the threads that the starting position was in fact determined by the color of your Civ. The post indicated that any Civ with the white shield was the first Civ placed, and consequently got the best starting position. I don't know if this is true or not though. I've definately gotten some crappy starting locations playing as the Romans before.

Well, I interrogated the Rules.txt file to pull all the civ attitudes and dispositions. The Civilized/Militaristic classification relates to which technologies are researched first by the AI. The Expansionist/Perfectionist classification relates to the number of cities the AI tries to build (many vs. few). I'm not sure what results from Agressive/Rational behavior, perhaps it is more easy to demand tribute or negociate and trade with rationalist civs? Here is the compilation:
      Aggressive(1)/ Rational(-1)
      Expansionist(1)/ Perfectionist(-1)
      Civilized (1)/ Militaristic(-1)

      Romans_______Civilized Expansionist
      Babylonians__Rational Civilized Perfectionist
      Germans______Aggressive Civilized Perfectionist
      Egyptians____Civilized
      Americans____Civilized Rationalist
      Greeks_______Militaristic Expansionist
      Indians______Rational Perfectionist
      Russians_____Aggressive Militarist
      Zulus________Aggressive
      French_______Aggressive Civilized Expansionist
      Aztecs_______Civilized Perfectionist
      Chinese______Civilized
      English______Expansionist
      Mongols______Aggressive Militaristic Expansionist
      Celts________Rational Expansionist
      Japanese_____Aggressive Militaristic Perfectionist
      Vikings______Aggressive Expansionist
      Spanish______Rational Militaristic Expansionist
      Persians_____Perfectionist
      Carthaginian_Militarist
      Sioux________Neutral
      Arabs________Aggressive Civilist
      Incas________Rational Civilized Expansionist
