  • Declaring War

I have been getting very angry with several AI Civs. They invade all of my city squares,
and my people starve. I regularly insist that they withdraw troops, but they just bring them back. They don't get mad and declare war on me because their units are warriors and horsemen and I am using dragoons. I want to declare war on them, but there is no way of doing it. Does anybody have similar problems?

Another question: How come the AI can declare war on you whenever they want, and their reputation does not appear to get damaged. (other civs sign alliances, treaties, etc. with them.) The human players have to damage their reputations to declare war.

Demanding tribute will make the AI withdraw, just as they do when you ask them to leave. However, it is more threatening, and you are more likely to get war. On the other hand, you may actually get some tribute(gold or tech).

ive had some times where the demand tribute isnt an option, is it because my ally is at war with them?

i had to plunge into anarchy twice to get rid that the trash but i got 'em!

One way around this is to put a dip in each border city, and bribe anything that comes your way...

Interestingly enough, this doesn't have an effect on your reputation or status with the ai-civ...

I guess there are a number of different ways to deal with unwanted troops on your land.
Mine is to build the Maginot Line. Set up a string of forts with interlocking zones of control. Make sure the forts are no more than 3 hexes away from one of your cities. That way you dont piss your population off.
Try to use 2 units in the forts so the ai cant bribe em too. But, for this to work the
frontier must be limited in size or you will eat up your production trying to occupy all the forts. Soooo find and establish choke points early on. The enemy cant squat on your land if you dont let em get there.

                      Neon-

Your ZOC reasoning is very solid; however, I have found that AI cheating prevents it from working in practice. I have MGE and the AI frequently makes illegal moves where it will move a military ground unit occupying a square adjacent to one of my units to another such square. Has anybody else seen this form of blatant cheating?

I just love it when I see AI units next to my cities, contact them to get them off my land, and find that "Please remove your troops" selection has 'mysteriously' disappeared. This happens in peace, monarchy or any other government, with any AI attitude. When this happens, I know it's time to brace for a, ahem, 'sneak attack'.

The first time it happened, I got so angry I temporarily altered rules.txt and reloaded...

Besides, the last time I broke a peace treaty, the ENTIRE FRIGGIN' WORLD declared war on me (and yes, they were close enough to matter)!
