The game handicaps you research wise based on some factors.I don't pretend to know what they are but 1 that I do know(I think) is how far or behind you are relative to other civs.
OCC players know what I'm talking about.You can drop to 3 turns per tech.Do some tech gifting and it will drop to 2.I get research rate changes all the time in MP games played at deity level.Big changes too.Sometimes 3 turns worth.Works both ways which is good for me
Sometimes my trade routes change for no APPARENT reason.+8 to +6 is a big difference.
I've had MP games where I wouldn't get any beaker "carry over" for 6 turns or more.I'm sorry but there is no way I can calculate that accurately.NO WAY.
Now when I play a single player game and this happens I think "thats just the game evening things out"
