  • Second Front - Carpiquet Airfield

I'm playing Capt. Nemo's 'Second Front'(on a Mac - MPG version) & having just emptied Carpiquet Airfield of Me109s (and captured Caen) I now face the problem that my bombers/fighters can't capture or land at Carpiquet. I get a message that says something like "This unit cannot capture this city, use something more appropriate..". If I use one of my troops/tanks to capture it the airfield turns into a regular Allied city and so my planes can't land there either as it's no longer an airfield !!

Anyone else had this problem; is there a way around it ? Are there any units in the Allied 'Air' civilization that can capture empty German airfields ?

You have to capture the city in part V (maybe IV or VI is also fine), then an event will produce an 'airport' unit near the city which can't move but can bear air units. Protect it well since the unit has a weak defense.

Xin Yu - were you playing on a Mac or PC when playing SF ?

I'll look out for this air unit - I captured Carpiquest last night, so I'll find out tonight when I pick-up if any air units have appeared.

        Thanks !

You have to capture the city of Carpiquet during parts IV, V, or VI. If you capture the city during parts IV or V, the unit will be created when you load part VI. Otherwise the unit will be created when you capture the city.

I play on PC but I don't think it matters.

Ah, right ! Well I'm nearing the end of Part V (captured Carpiquet in V, though it was empty all through IV). I'll look out for the new unit when I load VI tonight - just have to finish my moves around Cherbourg then Part V is over (lots of SS tanks lurking in hedgerows !)

            Thanks !
