Ottok,

Deity.
Small map.
10,000 colonists on spaceship.
Germany had 3 cities, I had about 150. I wiped out all the other civs while my spaceship was in flight.
???
It took about 30 hours and 3 weeks to play out this game. If I hadn't gotten lazy on my micromanagement, it would have taken a lot longer.
Version 2.42.
My answer to any question: ICS. Build lots of small cities with no improvements.

This is impressive. From your previous games I knew ICS was an excellent strategy for conquering the world. I never thought it would be a great strategy for Alpha Centuri.

How many turns did it take to build the ship? You didn't note the date of Apollo project.

On the other thread you said you only build trade caravans in your capitol. What did you build in the other cities? Only defensive units, food caravans?

How large did your other cities grow?

You're right, there are several omissions in my log file. I built Apollo and discovered Fusion in AD 1540 (then set science to 0%). I already had 24 cities working on WS, and they switched over to spaceship parts (at no penalty - I was hoping it would work that way). It took me 4 turns to accumulate enough cash to build all the parts - another place where I could have done better by planning more carefully.

Other things I noticed should be in the file: I built SoL in AD 40, switched to Communism and never looked back. The barbarians wiped out two of my cities, Capua and Hispalis.

My supporting cities built warriors, horsemen, knights, riflemen, settlers/engineers, and caravans/freight. Late in the game, I had 24 cities working on WS and the rest on capitalization. I tried to build a food caravan in each city sitting on a grassland square; they could still support a settler even with -1 food.

My biggest city outside my capital in 1540 was size 5; I had a couple 4s and some 3s. Most were size 2, a few still size 1. No improvements in any of them. After 1580 I captured some big AI cities, and my existing cities grew bigger. In 1594 the cities ranged from size 1-8. Most were still size 2 or 3.

This is ridiculous; almost as ridiculous as landing in 1771 with one city. I'm not even going to try any more. I'll just content myself with multiplayer.

Hoe do you make the log files? Do you need a special program for that?

No special program, just your favorite text editor. I have a blank file with the names of all the techs, wonders, and cities. Otherwise, it's a lot of typing. The hard part is remembering to Alt-Tab from the game to the editor when something happens.
