  • Communism And Happy Wonders

    Dear Experts of Apolyton,
I'm civving since some years, but I never go to Communism if I have the possibility (SoL) - I take Fundy.
I've heard that Communism has its advantages - you can celebrate with a lux rate form about 20 % if you respect martial law. And the research is not as bad as in Fundy.
So my question: Have the happy wonders (HG, Oracle, Michelangelos, Bach's, CfC) any influence under Commie?
Do you need temples, cathedrals and so on?
There are no silly questions - only silly answers

Saying 'No' to commie is a sin against the gods of civ2 .
Yes, Brother, all happiness wonders have their full effect.
And, if you celebrate, you get the same trade arrows as if you were under Dem or Rep. Therefore, improvements like MP or Banks also can have a nice effect on happiness.
(... and of course Commie is the only government providing vet spies )

Does this mean that a celebrating Commie Gov has the same income as a Democratic Gov?

Yes, it does (provided that all cities celebrate, which is seldom the case, but a vast majority of bigger cities is enough IMO).

Yes, if a city under monarchy or communism is celebrating, it gets the extra trade arrow it would automatically get in republic/democracy
But of course, that you cannot automatically grow your cities 1 size/turn : advantages must remain for the representatives gvts

If you go commie, don't forgot to try the self sustaining trick. Set your lux rate high, to get them celebrating, then once you're getting the extra trade arrow bonus you should be able to slide the lux rate down, but continue celebrating.

In german fora, there's a special expression for those celebrating cities - jubilation communism.
Some people there take communism for huge militaristic empires with a low infrastructure, especially in MP-games when they didn't manage to get the happy wonders (Mike's and Bach's). As I heard communistic cities are expensive to bribe.

That is because the maximum distance from a city to the capital is 16 instead of 32 under Communism.

                  Ah, some newbie...
Correct numbers are 10 instead of 16...

ST, I don't know if 16 is correct, but by reasoning I favored 16 over 10 since after courthouse a 10 would be reduced to 5 hence would be very expensive. Are you sure your number is without courthouse?

IIRC the results of the huge testing during which we killed so many of my beloved vet spies , ST is right: limit 10 for commie and 16 for the others.

I think happiness wonders actually give you gold under Fundamentalism.

OK, I must have mixed city with unit, I guess.

Edit: ah! units also 16 vs. 10. Now what excuse I can use?

Xin, it was in Scrolls of Ancient Wisdom (Winkler) . I think that the "original" of this (and many others) error lies in some "strategy book" probably.
