  • Embassy In Barb City

I've read about this in a german forum:
Don't open an embassy in a barb city. Next time, when barbs land, there will be an intervention of the senate if you want to attack them ...
Do you believe that? What are your experiences?

An embassy with a barb city is a waste of time. Instead use your diplomat to bribe the city.

An embassy with a barb city only lasts for one turn - so is a waste of a diplomat.
The Senate intervention on behalf of the Barbs is a rare, but well documented happening - and is unrelated to having previously contacted them diplomatically

Yes, definately unrelated. It happened to me once, and I have never even attempted to establish an embassy with them. But the lasting one turn part, does it truely last only one turn, or is it because they attack you the next turn?

Why would anyone want to build an embassy with the Barbs?

Just for fun? At least that's why I've done that once.

I suppose that program which gave you the ability to play hotseat MP with the standard Civ II, and even as the Barbarians, is still floating around in the program archive. At least that's where I downloaded it back in 1999.

I think it was just for fun - or to find out or to prove something.
It seems there are still some secrets hidden in the game. Correction: THE GAME.

The 'one turn' part - if you create an embassy with a barbarian city you get the expected information screen showing techs, cities etc ... - but they never enter the F3 window so it is impossible to recall this Embassy Screen after the initial establishment of the 'embassy'
