  • Expansionism vs Perfectionism

    Hi there!

I'm new to this forum, but already a experienced civ II player (288% score on king level). This forum is really great, with lots of very experienced players, so I hope to learn (and already do) a lot of you guys. I have two questions for you?

    - What do al the abbrevations like ICS mean?

I would consider myself to be a agrassive expansionist in civ II. During the entire game I found new cities and look for conquest. However, I always fail to let my cities grow since they built lots of settlers. Has anybody tips on how to expand without keeping my cities small? My avarage city in 1940 is around size 17 or so.

    Hi

    ICS = Infinite City Sleaze/Strategy.

      Hi Daaap
I too was a little perplexed by all the abbreviations when I first came here, so I will try to give you a list:

ICS=Infinite City Sleaze, rapid expansionism. DaveV wrote the definitive explanation, but I do not know where to find it. (help)

OCC=One City Challenge, which is self explanatory. Paul wrote the definitive guide, and I do have a copy on hard drive. If you would like a copy either post your e-mail or leave me a message on my A/C here.

WLT*D=We Love The **** Day celebrations, with these populations can increase rapidly. (It took me ages to figure this one out.

(C)MGE=(Civilization) Multiplayer Gold Edition. It even took me a while to figure this one out, now this was really dumb because this would be the disc in my machine

The next most heavily abbreviated things are the Wonders, HG (hanging Gardens), GL (Great Library) etc. It sometimes leaves me stumped to work otu which one is being talked about. I then have to open up civ. Which is dangerous as I often end up wasting a few hours on a game when I have other things to do. I always tell myself, 'just ten minutes to see how much I can get for this caravan' this inevitably leads to 'just....until I finish the wonder' then 'just ten more minutes until I wipe out the ***' etc etc. (sorry for ranting and raving o)

Right now I can't think of any more to tell you, but there must be others too. I know how frustrating it is seeing all these abbreviations in posts and not knowing what they are.

Hmm.. maybe we need a glossary for newbies where we list all the abbreviations we use here. I also felt like a detective trying to figure out all those MGE's, WLTxD's etc. when stumbled across Apolyton a few months ago. Does anyone know if we already have a glossary? If not, would someone kind soul perhaps write one?

The best answer to your question is a thread named 'acronyms' in the archive.
I don't give you a direct link, because I shall be very happy if you follow my advice and switch to the archive NOW.

              The reason for that is:
if the answer to any question you are asking is not in the GL (I hope you have already had a look at the GL = thread #1 on this forum) then it is most probably in the archive.

              How to get there?
              1) Find the button named 'hop to'
              2) Find the archive to Civ2 strategy, somewhat down the list
              3) Hop to it: you find several hundreds of posts in alphabetical order

              Method #2:
There is a tiny blue command named 'search', close to the one named 'faq'.
              1) Click
              2) Type one or several keywords (or 'solo' if you wish to read about how to
              land swiftly )

Please have a try at both methods ONCE.
              Please do it NOW.
I bet you'll find it rewarding.

Yes, do try the search feature... it's really amazing what you can find.
                Or, just wander the archives.

Oh... and for the lazy ones, here is the link to the short thread listed by La Fayette. But in reading through it, it didn't really provide many of them
