  • Am I missing something?

I was just playing a game single player...

I built a city, I got it to celebrate to size 41...

So, as the city was growing extremely rapidly, I noticed something. The 37th, 38th, 39th, 40th and 41st people did nothing! They appeared as entertainers but all they did was appear there and eat my food! They didn't even produce luxuries! And I couldn't change them! Is this something in the manual that I missed or is it some kind of bug?

Nope.36 is the cutoff.Only Elvi' after that.

I've noticed the same thing. I can't recall reading about it anywhere. I just stopped trying to grow my cities to that point. I guess if you are trying to get huge trade bonuses, it might be worth it. Usually by that point of the game though, it's not really worth it as you should be in a pretty commanding position...

Smash, but they weren't producing any luxuries...

Also, when I took guys off squares, they could only become entertainers, but they did provide luxuries. So I guess its a specialist max rather than a pop max. 16 I think?

Try changing the specialist at the "other end".Nearer the happy citizens. That works in MAC version.Yes I do beleive 16 is correct.

you can only have 16 specialists that produce either money, beakers or luxuries... only 36 productive citizens...

you can have 16 total, after that they do nothing.

Really whats the point in growing the city after that then?? Seems moot to me

For more points I guess... so once you hit 36 if you have excess food, just mine squares etc to get more production... but that might hurt trade... although the production bonus would be better than the trade... unless you need the trade... but at least you wouldn't be wasting food

i guess the key is the 80 shields thingy, and then use the surplus for specialists or make it so your city is even with no food surplus at all.

Then again, chances are that without cheating or double production your city won't get to 36 or beyond. Or you're trying to break some kind of record...

Cities that large are a waste. Make settlers/engineers. Rehome them if it's a food issue or found new cities.
