Space ship in 1000AD????????????

I've download a few games from the hall of fame and what was my surprise when I saw that in the year 1000 the player had already built his spaceship and was in a nuclear war with another civ.

I've been playing civilization for years but I didn't know that something like that was possible

Has anybody ever done something like that???
