  • Science Factors

For some reason I have always thought that each technology that I researched had science factor. ie

If I wanted to research something like Monarchy it would take 30 turns (depending on the amount of science that I had)

... I assumed if I would research something like pottery, which I normally skip, it would take less time to research as it was an easier thing to research?

But it ain't like that at all....

The first tech you research takes 12 turns, normally with 1 science beaker, the next 26 turns, if still on 1 beaker, 13 if 2, etc

    1st 12 turns
    2nd 26 turns
    3rd 40 turns
    4th 60 turns
    5th 80 turns
    6th 100 turns
    etc, etc

    These include rounding downs too

I always thought to go for the small (quicker) techs first then then bigger (longer) tech after. ie, writing, then pottery before Mysticism, etc.

Has this been common knowledge and I've just found it out? duh? or what?

Nope, it works on the principle that each technology takes a certain amount of beakers to research.

    I.E.
    Your 1st tech may take 10 beakers, no.2 takes 15, no.3 25 beakers.
(that was purely for examples sake)

Therefore, if you are researching one thing, and get a tech from a hut, the tech you were researching now gets bumped back one, and you need more beakers to get it.

This is how it works, right smart guys?

"Fear can sometimes be a useful emotion. For instance, let's say that you're an astronaught on the moon and you fear that your partner has been turned into Dracula. The next time he goes out for the moon pieces, wham!, you just slam the door behind him and blast off. He might call you on the radio and say he's not Dracula, but you just say, 'Think again, bat man'"

Check this thread out, it covers beakers needed for next discoveries.
