I used Linux back in the days when transparent proxy servers were not easy to implement in Windows. I taught myself the basics, but it's a real pain; if I hadn't lived with some computer geeks I never would have kept it working.Originally posted by Berzerker

But nowadays its dead easy to have the setup you want within windows, if you have WinXP or Win2k, thus circumventing Linux.
Alternatively if you get dsl you could get a dsl modem/router that would obviate the need for your proxy server. Satellite broadband should be considered a last resort.......you probably have some proper broadband suppliers in your area unless its very rural. Given that you are a gamer it could be worth it........mine is £23 (about £15 IIRC) a month.
