Speed gear, is that something like that old "moslow" dos utility?

I don't think the actual problem is speed (Civ2 is turnbased afterall). It's the problem that certain apps need a lot of tinkering to get them running properly under WinXP.
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

I believe the problem will not be the speed of the computer but the software we get given to us from micro$oft.

You take your Civ2 CD with you and you demand they install and play it before you buy their equipment. The consumer must demand their purchase be Civ2 compliant.

I have 2.42,FW and MGE running on XP with no problems or fixes at all.

If MS makes future OS's non Civ2 compliant, then you don't use the OS.
