Actually, I thought Deity handled the tormenting rather well that night. Lord knows how he'll cop it this time. We can do all sorts of jokes about him taking 8 hours to move three peas around his plate.

In fact, I hereby invite people to post taunts that we can launch at him on the night!

If normal means finbar will have to have tomato sauce on the dinner table if Hydey comes then I guess you're right.

Sorry. The Bangers & Mash will come with a scrummy Shiraz and Sage Jus. There won't be a bottle of tomato sauce within 10k of the house. Hydey - and Mrs Hydey - will be frisked before they set foot inside the front door.

I don't eat mashed potato but don't let that upset your menu.

You think I'd serve plain mashed potato? There won't be any potato in the mash.

BTW, why don't you eat mashed potato?

Its a childhood thing - I was forced to eat it.

I can eat it now but I don't have it by choice.

That's sad. My mother was the worst cook in not only this galaxy but any galaxy George Lucas ever dreamed up. Even she couldn't put me off mashed potato. Fish, now that's a different matter. What she couldn't do to Smoked Cod with White Sauce - our staple Good Friday meal, even though we weren't Catholic - doesn't bear thinking about. To this day, I have a real problem with fish.

It was actually an overzealous Aunt who put me right off mashed potato, they ran a "noone can leave the table until everyone has finished everything" regime.

They even showed me the unmarked police car parked in the street and had the policeman knocking at the door to take me away - but I WOULDN'T EAT IT

Gee, talk about parenting skills. Or, in this case, Aunt-ing skills. We were only ever told that if you pointed at policemen they arrested you. Presumably as a way of stopping us pointing at people, which was considered rude.

BTW, is your Message Icon buggered on your screen? The smilie with the sunnies? 'Tis on mine.

Mmmm. The one with the sunnies and the one second from the right on the top line - from which you select - shows only as the computer code symbol. I wonder why. I might try re-booting.

I did. And it worked. I was dreading having to use another icon.

But still Hydey's claim to be the only normal Australian hits me in the eye when I open this page.

I am the only normal one and if you serve any foreign muck you will be cleaning it off the walls for weeks.

Thankfully Mrs Hydey has a more educated palate.
