  • Speculation about Civ3MP

Well, it had to happen sometime: "Civ3 XP is on the planning board" Going on the current facts (errr...rumors) it's going to include some new civs, some scenarios and if true even some MP scenarios. This means MP will 'probably' be in the XP, with some 'extra'.

For most of you this is probably old hat, but I'm going to quote a newspost with a few tidbits

    Source:

    Civilization III Expansion Revealed
Infogrames announces Civilization III: Play the World.

Infogrames revealed an upcoming expansion pack for Civilization III - Play the World. The expansion will include 8 new civilizations, new single and multiplayer scenarios and a new online "turn-less" mode. Details of the Play the World expansion will be released at the E3 in Los Angeles later this month.

While I'm still holding out against Civ3 (actually, I've simply lost interest in it to be fair) I still like to speculate on what this "turn-less"mode could be. I'm going out on a limb and say this "turn-less"mode is based on ideas previously used in Dan Bunten's Command HQ, or more recently EU. My bet is that everyone in MP will be playing against some sort of timer which goes on regardless of what your actions are (1 turn=30 secs).

A question for the people who have played Civ3 AND Civ2MP:

"seeing the way you manage your civ and units now, would it work as well in this "turn-less"mode?
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

Sounds more like sim to me, witch in Civ2 sucks bigtime.

But managing your turn in 30 seconds is impossible after you build some ships..

I love civ2 simul so turnless sounds like a great way to play civ3 MP. After almost a year of civ2 simul I try to play old fashioned turn based and it bores me silly.Turn based gaming is for people with 56k modems or brains which go sssssssssssllllllllllloowwwwwwww

        BRING ON CIV3 MULTIPLAYER

They could well mean sim as 'turnless'. If they did it properly then sim could work - if they found a way of eliminating host advantage. Anyway it doesn't say that's the only way to play, could just be one of many options.

Yes, I hope there are plenty of options, or the game will be a dissaster.
But I do believe that with no AIs in the game, there's a chance it could be a lot better of a game.

But you can learn so much by studying the methods of play AI's employ!

Yeah, the joys of starting like the ai.... two settlers and 8 warriors and a couple of scouts if they're expansionists. Takes a lot of skill to get off to a fast start with that

didn't realize that, maybe that's how that civ got 8 warriors, it built 2 cities. hmmmmmm.

You can tell that the game didn't hold my interest long enough for me to figure that out. But with no AI, MP might work.

                          Same here.
But the problem with civ2MP is it takes too long time ((
If civ3 can fix this problem by turnless, I may give it a try.
