  • Do you play hot seat?

I'll have to admit that I'm one of those who really
enjoy playing Civ II as hot seat, even if it doesn't work so well.

But why am I playing and enjoying hot seat MP?
The answer isn't complicated. At school it's
the only chance to play MP with my mate,
due to the lack of LAN in certain parts of our school.

And how could we live without playing Civ II at school?

I'd like to know how many of you actually plays Civ II MP as
hot seat, and of course comments are always welcome.
And why not start a good discussion about hot seat!

I know that it's not easy to pick the right
option, but take the one closest to your's.

      My hotseat story:

Long ago in a community far, far away there lived a young man with a hankering for civ. He played civ, he played colonization, he played master of orion. He liked those games equally well.

After a bit he heard that civ made a sequal. He bought and liked this game as well. He would play them off and on himself and became quite hooked.

One day this enterprising young man decided to spread the good news of these games he has found, especially the game of civ2. He brought over his good friend and showed him the wonder that is civ. His friend was not impressed. His friend wanted only to play Simcity. Yet the young man persisted and forced his friend to play. After a grueling hour or two of teaching the basics and forcing him to like the game- it finally worked.

The friend became as addicted as the young man, and together their addiction florished. These two friends being very competitive with each other rejoiced when they heard such a thing existed as Civilization 2 Multiplayer. Finally a chance for the two to play each other competitively!

They looked into the matter and were horrified to learn that it was only available for PC, the Mac on which they played Civ2 had no multiplayer released for it yet, and would not for many months!! Arrgghh!!

Undaunted the young man's friend went out and bought Multiplayer for the PC anyways. Despite having no computer with which they could play each other they set out to find one. The mostly unemployed and homeless friend took his civ disk to any public library and open computer terminal he could and played the game till his fingers bled.

The duo found places to go to finally see who the better player was. Using Hotseat they faced off in mortal combat. Duels to the death. These epic games always went in favor of the young hard-rockin' person who began this tale, he was entirely undefeated. Yes, those hotseat games were good, however time and distance sepperated the duo and internet play became the norm. No longer was there a need for the hotseat and it disappeared into the dustbin of history.

i've played hot-seat, but i didn't like it very much, the diplomacy was too limited for one thing (i'd list all my reasons for not liking it but no sensing wasting time eh? )

You're right. It's quite anoying when the AI
signs a peace treatment, even if you are fighting a war with them.
Or they might even get scence from you, if you haven't changed
                    your attitude.
