    my definitions:

alliance: not to be broken except for mutual agreement (ie "only me and you left, lets see who can whup who")

peace treaty: stay off'n my property 'til i get enough troops to kick your ass

cease fire: maybe to roll cigarettes with or toilet paper substitute?

      A Little Clarification Please...

As I mentioned earlier, I don't use cease-fire or peace often, so I don't know what they do very well.

I thought a cease-fire was for a specific length of time (or is that just how the AI handles it)? Logically, I suppose you have to have had some fighting to have a cease-fire.

I thought peace was simply a statement of intent not to commence warfare. I might use it if allied to one payer, but having useful relations with another player. In other words, not an alliance, but perhaps some trade routes or an occasional tech trade. I'll give an ally anything they need (like techs), but I'll expect an even trade from someone at "only" peace.

In general I dont make peace treaties or alliances because it is pretty tough to win without breaking them or forcing an opponent to. Unless you build a spaceship - which doesnt' seem to happen too often in MP games Ive played in - you can't win. On the rare occaision when i do make a peace treaty or alliance, I make as clear as possible with my opponent what the terms are. But even at that, unless someone builds a spaceship, someone will have to attack another in order to win.

Side note of humor on alliances:

I was playing a game once with one other human and an ai or 2. To my amazement when I ran into the other person he offered a peace treaty.

So what was the point of playing?

In the continuing effort to show my ignorance, how many Civ's are required for GL to work?
For some reason I was thinking it to be 4.
