The computer was fine... It was my "brand new" service from AT&T Broadband that was the problem. All of a sudden, I got the messages that I had lost connection to you guys... then ICQ followed shortly there after.
What can I say.
I wouldn't mind... but I think War4ever might have a problem with that since he got pinned in early and whined most of the game
(Yes War... I do remember you killed my civ in the first game we played that night)
I'm up for playing something tonight. However, I may not be available as early as usual, because we have to do a birthday celebration for our nanny.
We expect to do it early because my wife has to go to her Doctor as usual on Tuesday night... I'm just not sure when I will be ready to play. I'll do the icq thing once I get home and have a better feel on my timing.

Well... in the first game, War started in the mountains and had cities on 3 or 4 gold squares. While he was racing through the tech tree, me and Bird were "having our problems" Then one of his chariots found me, killed my only non unit, and then walked into my second city (a had just built it).
Bird agreed we were toast, and we started again.
The second game, Bird and I both got out of Despotism in 2250BC... that about sums up. (Bird did manage to get HG)... and then AT&T Broadband screwed us. I lost service for about an hour. Did you have problems last night Rah?
I couldn't get on last night due to my daughter. She was on chatting till 10:15 and she experienced no problems.

That first game was laughable. Only 3 players and the stupid computer puts me on the north pole with 6 mountain, 6 tundra and 6 plains visible. No huts and one iron special is all I see. I move a few squares and nothing improves -- no more specials, no huts, nothing but plains and mountains. So I decide to put a city down on the iron and just pump out first city settlers while the other one explores. Crank out a settler after 4 turns, and by then have found two more specials and lots more mountain and plains. The other two specials are, guess what, iron. And now the barbs show up and start killing my damn settlers. Even if Ming hadn't been killed, the two of us probably couldn't have allied and beaten war that game. This game and last week's similar experiences (with the shoe on the other foot) shows one of the great benefits of playing with people you know: War4 was a good sport and the issue of restarting was not an issue at all. We all just want some semblance of balance at the beginning.
The second game was better. I didn't get HG, War4 did, but I would have had it in one more turn. I have about 8 white techs and mono will be next if the ai lets me choose it. By the time I finish researching mono, I'll have enough shields and/or money to finish the wonder.
Too bad about the tech problems, Ming. We waited at least a half hour, and at some point you showed up on line and even sent us an icq asking what happened. We both responded that you disappeared, but then we didn't hear anything back via icq.

Those ICQ's you got half an hour later were sent right after I lost connection. I choose the send later feature when it told me that ICQ was no longer connected to the web. About half an hour later, I noticed my ICQ flower turned green. I tried accessing web sites at that time with no luck. Then the flower turned red again. It was at least half an hour after that when things returned to normal.
Oh... and I really thought it had said the Vikings had built HG. The game ended so soon after that...
I started the second game at the north tip of a finger heading south.
There were fish and a buffalo, so I knew I would have to head south for a long time before reaching another band of specials. I started the city because I knew I was going to be wandering for a while. (science development was not good) South, there was NO GOOD terrain at all, and it took forever to find even a marginal spot to build the second city. The few huts I found provided one free unit and a few sciences that didn't help my rush to monarchy I finally found some deceint land, but War had already staked it out
The crazy thing about that was i found the good land and couldnt' get the settlers there quick enough ..... however i was doing fine and yes i got HG just in time....... found three gold late in our session that i plunked down on as well.....
Bird i agree..... i dont mind winning if its fair but a blowout thats not fair to start sucks..... though i was paitient with finding the gold the first game.....
All in all it was fun..... Rich i hope you can make it out next tuesday... be nice to have the old 4 back and continuing a game for a few sessions..... say maybe till nukes
I am so up for a continuation and three is a weird number as it oftens turns into a duel +1
