  • How many people play "single-player multiplayer games"?!

What I mean is, starting a network multiplayer game, but without any other human opponents -- which of course allows you to have 2xproduction & 2xmovement!

I've done this almost exclusively since getting MGE, to the point where I find the old 1xprod./1xmovt. games incredibly tedious.

What do other people do? Has anyone found any advantages in the original 1x1x game - apart from being more difficult?! I'd be interested to know.

    I don't like 2x moves especially.
2x strengthens dips overly for one thing.

But I don't play single player much at all.

I do it all the time now... Unless I'm playing an OCC game, or some other challange, I will play in MP mode so I can play 2x production.

It was really funny the other week when I was setting up a duel with War4ever... I told him I could play, so he quickly logged into my IP... the next ICQ I got from him was OPPPS... wrong game
(I had I was playing already up and hadn't shut it down yet)
On other saturday night, I didn't get home until late so I missed the early mp games... with nobody else around, I just started playing a game.
All of a sudden I got the classic "Please wait while a person joins the game" message. It really freaked me out. It seem barono (who lives on the west coast) was also late, and assumed I was the host, and was hoping to pick up an AI civ... He was shocked too

Oh well, if you do it, Ming, it must be all right! (I was wondering if I was some kind of secret 'cheater' who played that way 'cos he couldn't cope with the rigorous discipline of 'proper' single-player civ!) But honestly, it just drives me up the wall if I have to move my caravan one painful square at a time across to the other side of the world!

While I don't do it to use 2x movement, the 2x production makes for a faster and different game. I've played so many 1x1x sp games, that I've lost interest. Plus, I use it to test new things to try in MP, and I almost always play 2xpro 1xmov in MP

Hmm, I do that most of the time. The double production and double movement features speed up the game.

BTW: There will be a 7 civilization limit in Civ 3. Go and complain about it here:
