    • After building a special university for visiting scientist, Sir Isaac Newton, the German people became drunk with joy celebrating into the wee hours of the next century. The excessive revelry cost us dearly for the Western Alliance somehow managed to send another scientist on a voyage to the new world to attain "proof" for a theory of evolution one of our own was working on. The technological boost deriving from the revelation that our Uncle might be a monkey has propelled the sneaky westerners far ahead in technology.

Meanwhile, the poor Turks who cannot even trade with the world due to gremlins possessing their camel herds have been attacked by the Austrians and Russians. The 10 or 20 year war has resulted in substantial losses for the Turks who have put out a bounty on the heads of the heads of state of their enemies.

      • Ozzy, Deity and I ran into some rather major communication problems in today's session. At one point, I couldn't contact either of them via the FM window. Very, very hairy.

        • City bribing is against the rules.

Negotiations problems hit the Austrians too when trying to get gunpowder from the French.

          Date: 573 AD

After the Declaration of the Rights of Man in Budapest, the democratic revolutionaries escalated the cycle of violence, each new Jacobin Council producing more radical leaders, until the Reign of Terror under Mr. Hans Franz Josef exploded with the arrival of a military leader: Adolf "Napoleon" Hitler. A Viennese artisan by trade, Hitler was steeped in nationalistic ideology and belief in the supremacy of the High German (i.e., Austro-Bavarian) race. In 573 AD he seized power in Vienna by setting fire to the Parliament building and blaming it on the Monarchists. The Jacobins were again viewed as ineffectual in stamping out reactionaries, and a radical Jacobin party led by Hitler seized power. Their ideology of one-party democratic racial centralism would later be known as Fascism.

Under Fascist control, the buggies, carts, and carriages began to arrive on time. While scientific research was totally neglected, leaving Austria a relative backwater in that sense, cash poured into the state's coffers as citizens lovingly dedicated their life savings to the cause of Austrian world domination. Throughout the empire, Old High German was enforced as the only allowable language. Speaking Slavic or Magyar was punishable by death. Ethnically German settlers were settled throughout the empire, and Budapest was cleansed of Magyars. The cleansing took place through ad hoc "gang-pressing" of Slavs, Magyars, and other "undesirables" into the army. A crusade against the brown-skinned, racially inferior Turks was being planned. Austria felt it had been picked on by the Mohametan infidels throughout history, and now that they had a powerful leader, it was time for revenge.

An alliance was settled with the Russians, who also had grievances against repeated Turkish territorial intrusions. In AD 842 the Russians declared war on the Turks following Turkish rejection of a Russian ultimatum. After a long siege, the Russians took the city of Van, and a treaty was signed in 862, thus ending what became known as the Twenty Years' War.

The war between the Austrians and Turks lasted much longer. In 877 Austrian troops pillaged and razed the entire Izmir region, the formerly great capital of this region, Drobeta, burning to the ground as hundreds of thousands of refugees fled north and west.

Following this successful offensive, the war turned largely into a stalemate while the Austrians repaired their armies. The Turks undertook several successful naval bombardments in Thessaly, but the capital city withstood attack after the Austrians bought knowledge of Physics and Steam Engine from their German allies and were able to build a fleet of ironclads to defend the city.

            • What? This news of an atrocity can not be true!! We did gift to our neighbors the Austrian's for the purpose of liberating territory encroachments of the Turks (6) lancer units, ONLY! And never authorised any destruction of caravans on Russ soil, nor anywhere else for that matter.

If the Austrians will not replace any destroyed caravans then I Crusty the Russky will, and in haste. F. J. what of this? There is some doubt as to these rumors, since there was the sound of not a few caravans dumping off goods in our cities.

The Turk's are still our friends despite their temporary delirium regarding cities on previously claimed Russ lands. These differances have been negotiated with great haggling even resulting in the 20 Years War, and will have been ironed out completely so to speak when any cities on Crimea are reduced to the one original, any others Markusf the Turk has graciously agreed to delete ASAP. This will be the only city of the Turk's allowed on our claimed lands as its presence is of mutual benefit.

Again, if it is true that Austrian troops on Russian soil have destroyed any Turkish caravans, these must be replaced! If not by the Austrians, then by the Russ.

Other items in the news this week are the receeding ice caps are exposing many indications of a global deluge in the ancient past. The exact findings are still clasified. Trading at the Mosqua Market has been good, volume light, but individual books of green stamps returned with purchases has been higher. The City planners of the former city of Van have been sent back to Turkey due to confusion over what to build. This gross waste of resources was ended there immidiatly after it's liberation.

P.S. ~ 100 gold ruples were gifted to the Turk's upon the liberationfor of this city even though it was a demand of the 10 Years War.

We look to the future with renewed faith in our neighbors.

Austria is trusted to only regain what was pilfered by the independant minded Turk general who reportadly made those un authorized aquisitions in the beginning.

He is now serving along with the former city planning commity of Van on a small island in the Eastern Mediteranian guarding against caravan gremlins!

                • In an emergancy meeting of the turkish high command yesterday, it was decided to deploy a secret diplomatic weapon. The pond scum have violated several international treaties(violation of territory they said was ours, regnaging on tech agreements, thats just to name a few), and have destroyed several cities and are on the way to destroy several more. The turkish government feels it is no longer bound by these protocals and as such will use any means to defend. Armies of diplomats will be dispatched next turn, and cities bribed shortly thereafter.

I spoke to Markus - he's just kidding around

I admire that he continued playing this game with such a big dis-advantage. I didn't know about that Caravan bug till the after the last session. I'm all for the scenario being edited to improve Markus terrain as a compensation.

I don't concentrate in the king chat very well cos I'm waiting for my units to crawl along so can someone explain to me exactly what this bug is and why is it there in this scenario?

                          • LOL...I know I am not the only one who ever gifted units that were not the ones intended.

If I wanted those caravans gone, I would have nailed them myself.

Your caravans, Markus as I recall it mentioned the normal "wine, or wool" whatever. But most interestingly was a couple of them that said best I can remember: "fortify trade route established" and one other move command or else a city improvement item for a trade route. Sorry I can not remember exactly.
