he hasn't won yet but it looks like he will... but my 5 gold 8 beakers at size one start ruled...
after little time, he had overtaken me in population and production though, such as growth and technology... after he finished Mikes and the Gardens, my end was forseeable
I think it would be pretty sad to continue that game now, wouldn't it, Sean?

The Game ended... what a glorious game, just without a winner
A nice draw, although he claims to have won. He's in the better position now, he's stronger, larger, etc. But after I finished the Great Wall, his only threat was to buy all my cities.
Good luck, with no diplomats. After all, he would have needed some time to beat me by military means, considering my city walls everywhere. By economic means (buying cities), who knows...
Mentally, I take it as his victory, if the only city that was ever captured was Cologne, that was leveled by my elephant

I agree totally, and you HAVE been able to buy them. But in the moment we decided to stop, you hadn't bought them yet, so it's technically not a real victory. Neither did I surrender or so, just agreed to stop. Which was your proposal. See, I don't really care, claim the victory if you want, you deserve it, OK?

Another day, another name added to the trophy folder. Names currently residing there: Crustactian, Markusf (2 files), Carnide, Chaos Warrior. If anyone is interested in joining them send me a message and we'll play. I'm always looking to add more people.

Yup you must be the best, you will only play duels, you will only play on a medium map, and you will only play if you can host, and you will only play if i am not allowed to build a single caravan the whole game. First game we played you had a bunch of free techs, and 2 settlers allowing you to get rep by 2200 bc. All the huts you tripped where tribes or huts on the path to rep. Where as mine where 6 techs to no government, leaving me with a mess till 500 bc both games. I notice that you have 2 icq accounts online a lot, and sometimes 3 online at the same time. I guess all those extra computers really add to your playing ability? Anyways if you played in simul games with 4 or 5 players you might actually learn how to play, and not be the laughing stock of apolyton.

I know Sean has learnt his lesson and would never cheat to win, ie use a second computer or bodgy rules txt, so we should bow to his greatness.
Anyone using cheats to win is disqualified and becomes a loser.

You disappoint me Markus. I guess it just confirms what I had suspected all along. YOu have absolutely no idea how you lost. Is this game just a matter of who gets republic first? Not only that I started with 1 settler. Our first game you got just as many if not more free cities than me. And I looked at the saves, you didn't have that many techs not going to republic. You even took one of my cities the first game. Caravans? I believe it was you who said that caravans were the most unbalancing aspect of civ2. But that matters not. You never even got trade or even go close to it. If we had played with caravans you would have been crushed because I had trade way before you. You have no excuse to have lost that first game. The second game you were on a sort of island, I don't claim that as a great win. hehehehe And now the greatest thing I always hoped I'd hear from you. You explaining your loss by accusing me of cheating. HAHAHA!! You've given me a real confidence booster. BOth games I had 1 settler. First game I had 1 tech, bronze working. Now maybe bronze working helped me get republic faster, you tell me. Also I've already explained how I have 3-9 ICQ's running at the same time. Do you really think I have that many computers sitting in my little apartment room? I thought you were this genius with computers? Guess not. Also, Carnide hosted the game he lost and they were all his settings so don't try to say that I'm manipulating the game through hosting. I'm sure you saved some of the turns so next time take a look at them. You're doing nothing more than speculating. In reality there is no real substance to your words. I told Crustacian that very same day the exact same words. You can't figure out how you lost. Your excuse is that you had bad techs leading to republic, you didn't have that many and I sure hope this game doesn't come down to whoever can get republic first. Not only that but you took one of my cities and took republic from me. You have no excuse, keep searching for the reasons.

One more thing. Small maps are my best settings. You guys have been trying to get me to play a larger map for a long time. I think what it comes down to is that you're still clinging to the idea that I can only play certain settings. I've beaten you on all of the settings now. Live with it.
One last thing. Your supergrowth strategy sucks. It ranks right up there with the size 5 city strategy.
