The other VERY aggravating "feature" is; when trying to respond or otherwise type in the game's chat box, any action or report to the screen knocks U out of the box & U R typing away uselessly, or WORSE, it becomes your move & U hit a key that gives your active unit some off-the-wall command!! ):

I find this happens a lot in simul.

I think the acceptable causes for war should be revised to include boring or offensive kingchat. Should be no loss of rep if you attack someone whose been driving everyone mad with inane chatter.

Quite right. And potty talkers should be required to cede cities. Which would make for very short games for some people ... no names, no packdrill.

Actually I came back because I got bored of beating everyone on 2x2x. So I decided to come back and beat all the so called "nominated players" on their own settings. I'm getting quite a trophy collection now.

Now this must be Eyes because it is such a weird comment, totally out of context with the discussion.

Would you prefer this instead? Then I won't have to give anything away. I was making that post in reference to Cucomber's post about why I'm back.

The discusion above of using ICQ more is good, but doesn't solve the "Broadcast" messages U want to send or pop-up-in-your-face while U R trying to move.

In tonights session of Diplo play, while I tried to respond very briefly to a King Chat question, I:

                  1. Put a caravan to sleep.
                  2. Had a settler irrigate a tile outside a city.
                  3. Stopped a settler engaged in mining a vital hill.

Those were just the problems I was certain of. I also had caravans that moved off roads, units that were off forified mountains, and units that seemed dangerously close to barbs when I thought they were just out of range.

Simul play has some advantages (our 7 player game is at 360 A.D. after 3 sessions), but it can cause some maddenning problems as well!

Yes, we have experience this in our current diplogame. I assume that the Borg had kingchat in the background, and therefore did not notice my attempts to contact him through that. If that had not been the case, no war would have been started at all.

The only problem with putting King Chat in the background is that is is easy to forget that you have done so. Then legitimate questions get overlooked and people think you are being an ass. It's a good way to lose an ally, too.

I had man of these problems as well, putting things to sentry, skipping turns, and other odd commands, I was cursing quite mightily a few times this happened.

A VERY GOOD topic!! (AH thot of this all by himself?)

It really is a tradeoff for all the reasons cited above.

The other VERY aggravating "feature" is; when trying to respond or otherwise type in the game's chat box, any action or report to the screen knocks U out of the box & U R typing away uselessly, or WORSE, it becomes your move & U hit a key that gives your active unit some off-the-wall command!! ):

The discusion above of using ICQ more is good, but doesn't solve the "Broadcast" messages U want to send or pop-up-in-your-face while U R trying to move.

1 minor suggestion that can help:
Rearrange your screen & drag the King Chat box to a location that it shows partially from under the map.
Then U can monitor some of the chat while U R moving. If it looks like U need to respond or read... just clik on an exposed portion of the Chat box & walla(!) it's there.
(Plus, U don't have to hear those damn bugles sound off!)

Hope the mythical CivIII does a better job on this important part of the gaming experience.

Of course the other big category of KC miscreant is people like War 4 or Eyes who, when say they build GW or take one of your cities, send you a cheery little KC message like, "You're dead now" or "only a matter of time now."
