  • Civfanatics Ladder, a huge success!!!

Since we started the ladder a week ago, we have gotten over 50 signups, and 7 players ranked already! These signups came for the biggest part of Civfanatic members and Zone newbies. I wonder what's keeping the Old school Apolyton Civilization players so long.

Are there still players here who would like to test their skills in this game in a real hardcore warmonger to death game Ladder, or have have you all become diplo sissies? Wake up that competitive feeling that must be deep down your soul somewhere!!!

We play on premade maps without huts. The maps can be downloaded on the map center.

To find this ladder, go to: http://www2.domaindlx.com/merrick/Startpage.asp

This ladder really was set up quite well. I suggest everyone atleast check it out. I'm more of a diplo wuss than anything too woke, but I'll be looking for some matches to test my "civ-arcade" skills at.
I see the world through bloodshot eyes
Streets filled with blood from distant lies.

it´s really worth to check it out. there are premade maps with no huts which decrease the luck-factor to a minimum. best settings to compare skill and learn how to play effectivly.

Puke! Just completed (or more accurately, dropped out / conceded) my 1st game.
As i suspected, yet another ladder of "success" for those that want to turn a grand strategy nation building game into a wonder-building, military-only theater-level war game.

The old no-brainer, well-known, tired formula wins here too:
build as many empty (except for a few temples if U R playing @ diety) cities as U can, as fast as U can. Get to monarchy, then trade. Then build all the caravens U can, so U can build a few key wonders & walla! U R a "winner"(?)
Yaho-o-o, What a thrill! What a unique challenge?!

Belch! Slurp! Boy, that was good. Next...

Guess it's time to hang up the old Civ CD, until (if?) they come out with a version that rewards the Netherlands nation-building model & not just the Mongolian horde model of "winning".
                --------------------------------------------
I did find as citied above, that getting rid of the huts = lot less luck. Now if only U could wipe the wonders off. Then players would have to WORK & THINK like a REAL leader.

Oh, & also, figure out a way to prevent playing ahead on a 2nd computer while your opponent has to risk time & units to discover the world & others' locations in the no-second-chances main arena. (fat chance that'll ever be possible)

Eyes... take my name off your League list. Played my 1st & last of this genure. Good luck & may the best _________ "win".
                "Hm-m-m, doubt me you will?"

I have to agree with Kenthur on this issue.

I'm sorry, but I have no respect (playwise) for people that play in the ICS/Duel style. Its really a stupid and boring way to play, and I don't see how they get any entertainment value out of it at all.

Just my opinion, and I don't particularly like "ranking" civ players because I don't think that you can really rank talent at this game.

Why dont you try a game like this? 1x1x king, no wonders, no bribing on a premade civfanatics ladder? i play such games all the time. There are actually a lot of players who like these settings.
